11. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase, new roles for an old enzyme
Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) has a wide tissue distribution with the highest expression found in white adipose tissue (WAT). HSL also has a unique ability to hydrolyze a large panel of substrates including acylglycerols, cholesteryl esters and retinyl esters. HSL is potentially a new drug target for the treatment of obesity and type II diabetes. LÄS MER
12. Plant UDP-glucose Pyrophosphorylase : Function and Regulation
Sammanfattning : UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (UGPase) is an important enzyme of carbohydrate metabolism in all living organisms. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the function and regulation of plant UGP genes as well as the UGPase proteins. LÄS MER
13. The effect of protein intake and physical exercise on energy turnover and substrate utilisation at energy balance in man
Sammanfattning : The principal goal of the thesis has been to evaluate the effect of protein intake and physical exercise on energy turnover and substrate utilisation. Body composition assessment is of importance as an indicator of the energy balance. Therefore, in the first study the aim was to develop new models to estimate body composition more accurately. 14. Glycerol kinase deficiency. Clinical, biochemical, and genetic aspects
Sammanfattning : Glycerol kinase deficiency (GKD, MIM 307030) is an X-linked recessive inborn error of metabolism occurring isolated or in an Xp contiguous gene syndrome with adrenal hypoplasia and/or Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The gene syndrome is due to deletions in the p21 region on the X chromosome. LÄS MER
15. Neuropeptides and GABA in control of insulin producing cells in Drosophila
Sammanfattning : Insulin plays an important role in metabolic regulation as well as in growth, fecundity and stress resistance. In order to understand more about the regulation of insulin-like peptide (DILP) production and release we investigate the impact of neuropeptide (DTK) signaling and classical neurotransmitter (GABA) signaling onto the insulin producing cells of the Drosophila brain.
