  1. 1. HIV and Infant Feeding Operational Challenges of Achieving Safe Infant Feeding Practices

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Tanya Doherty; Lars-Åke Persson; Ted Greiner; Debra Jackson; Per Ashorn; [2006]
    Nyckelord :International health; HIV AIDS; Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV; infant feeding; child health; qualitative research; cohort study; programme evaluation; nutrition; Internationell hälsa;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis assesses the uptake of the national Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) programme in South Africa, and the challenges of achieving safe infant feeding practices in the context of HIV. The research studies contained in this thesis utilised a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods in order to provide a full understanding of the challenges of moving from efficacy to effectiveness in PMTCT programmes. 3. 3. Deposit-feeding in benthic macrofauna Tracer studies from the Baltic Sea

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Institutionen för systemekologi

    Författare :Lars Byrén; Ragnar Elmgren; Lisa A. Levin; [2004]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Deposit-feeding; Macrofauna; Baltic Sea; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : A low content of organic matter, which is largely refractory in nature, is characteristic of most sediments, meaning that aquatic deposit-feeders live on a very poor food source. The food is derived mainly from sedimenting phytodetritus, and in temperate waters like the Baltic Sea, from seasonal phytoplankton blooms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ghrelin in feeding: new insights into its role and the neurocircuits involved

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborgs universitet

    Författare :Marie Le May; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2020]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ghrelin; feeding; supramammillary nucleus; parabrachial nucleus;

    Sammanfattning : Appetite, originally evolved to ensure we consume enough of diverse nutrients to survive famines, has lost its survival advantage in our modern society, where food is plentiful. The hedonic aspect of appetite can indeed induce over-consumption of food, a major cause for the obesity pandemic. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of Orexins, Guanylins and Feeding on Duodenal Bicarbonate Secretion and Enterocyte Intracellular Signaling

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Magnus Wilhelm Bengtsson; Gunnar Flemström; Olof Nylander; Karl E. O. Åkerman; Per M. Hellström; [2008]
    Nyckelord :Physiology; alkaline secretion; carbohydrates; central nervous system; cholinergic stimulation; duodenum; enteric nervous system; enterochromaffin cell; fasting; feeding; glucose; guanylyl cyclase C; humans; hypocretin; intra-arterial; in situ; intracerebroventricular; luminal acid; luzindole; orexin-B; SB-334867; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The duodenal epithelium secretes bicarbonate ions and this is regarded as the primary defence mechanism against the acid discharged from the stomach. For an efficient protection, the duodenum must also function as a sensory organ identifying luminal factors. LÄS MER
