21. Biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease and the APOE polymorphism
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers reflecting the core pathology of AD are now widely used for diagnosis making, in particular β-amyloid[1-42] (Aβ42) reflecting amyloid plaque pathology, phosphorylated tau (P-tau) reflecting neurofibrillary tangle pathology and total tau (T-tau) reflecting general neurodegeneration. In addition, blood-based biomarkers for AD are in the pipeline with recent studies showing promising diagnostic potential. LÄS MER
22. Polysaccharides in Alzheimer's disease and inflammation-associated amyloidosis
Sammanfattning : Amyloidosis is a term for diseases that share a common feature: the extracellular deposition of amyloid fibrils, that consist of a single protein prone to aggregate. Polysaccharides (glycos-aminoglycans), especially heparan sulfate, are significant components of all types of amyloid deposits. LÄS MER
23. Preclinical PET imaging and therapy of Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : The main histopathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease are extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles, containing tau protein. Because of misfolded and aggregated proteins, activated microglia and astroglia react with a neuroinflammatory response, which may contribute to disease progression and severity. LÄS MER
24. Capturing transient peptide assemblies associated with Alzheimer's disease : Native mass spectrometry studies of amyloid-β oligomerization
Sammanfattning : Correct folding of proteins is essential for maintaining a functional living cell. Misfolding and aggregation of proteins, where non-native intermolecular interactions form large and highly ordered amyloid aggregates with low free energy, is hence associated with multiple diseases. 25. Neurodegenerative Biomarkers in Healthy Elderly - with special reference to the preclinical pattern of biological and cognitive markers for Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by tau and amyloid brain pathology. With the gradual degeneration of neurons, cognitive symptoms will arise and the affected individual will eventually develop AD dementia. LÄS MER
