  1. 6. Insulin resistance and cardiovascular function - Observational, translational and interventional studies

    Författare :Helena Utkovic Westergren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Insulin resistance; microvascular function; peripheral vascular function; coronary flow reserve; prognosis; myocardial perfusion scintigram; animal model;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Microvascular disease is now recognized as an important driver for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Diabetic patients are known to suffer from this condition, leading to e.g. coronary ischemia as well as kidney dysfunction. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Role of arginase in vascular function

    Författare :Christian Jung; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is central for the integrity of the cardiovascular system, the maintenance of endothelial function and the protection against ischaemic heart disease. The enzyme arginase is up-regulated during ischaemia-reperfusion and by hypoxia in cell culture and animal models which might be of pathophysiological relevance since it competes with NO synthase for their common substrate arginine. 3. 8. CD93 in regulation of vascular function and tumour progression

    Författare :Kalyani Vemuri; Anna Dimberg; Pipsa Saharinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CD93; Tumour angiogenesis; Vascular permeability; Endothelial junctions; Cancer; Glioblastoma; Metastasis;

    Sammanfattning : To achieve successful vascular targeting in cancer, a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms that lead to tumour vascular abnormalities is required.  The transmembrane protein CD93 is highly expressed in the vasculature of several tumours including glioblastoma and has emerged as a potential anti-angiogenic target. 4. 9. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone. Studies in genetically engineered mice

    Författare :Irene Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :acromegaly; autonomic nervous system; cardiovascular disease; cardiac function; vascular function; growth hormone; heart rate variability; hypertension; insulin-like growth factor-1; transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to enhance the understanding on the relationships between growth hormone (GH) and cardiovascular disease using genetically engineered mice. More specifically the effects of GH on blood pressure (BP), vascular and cardiac function, atherosclerosis and autonomic control of heart rate were studied. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Implantation-Site Dependent Differences in Engraftment and Function of Transplanted Pancreatic Islets

    Författare :Joey Lau; Per-Ola Carlsson; Leif Jansson; Carina Carlsson; Caroline Kampf; Annika Tibell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; Type 1 diabetes; pancreatic islets; human islets; islet transplantation; vascular engraftment; revascularization; implantation-site; microenvironment; vascular density; insulin release; pro insulin biosynthesis; glucose oxidation; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transplanting pancreatic islets into the liver through the portal vein is currently the most common procedure in clinical islet transplantations for treating patients with brittle type 1 diabetes. However, most islet grafts fail within a 5-year period necessitating retransplantation. LÄS MER
