  1. 1. Function of granulocytes after burns and trauma, associations with pulmonary vascular permeability, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and immunomodulation

    Författare :Joakim Johansson; Folke Sjöberg; Lennart Lindbom; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ARDS; azurocidin; burn; CAP-37; critical care; granulocyte; HBP; histamine; intensive care; leucocyte; leukocyte; mediator; methylhistamine; MOF; oedema; neutrophil; permeability; PMN; trauma; vascular permeability;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Our innate immunesystem protects us from infections but, since its methods is not all specific for microorganisms, may also induce collateral damage.Severe physical injury often proved deadly throughout evolution. Such injuries may induce massive collateral damage. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Vascular mechanisms in ovulation

    Författare :Kenrokuro Mitsube; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :angiotensin; blood flow; nitric oxide; ovary; ovulation; permeability; permselectivity; rat.;

    Sammanfattning : Ovulation is a unique biological process, which involves the degradation and rupture of healthy tissue of the ovarian follicle and the extrusion of the oocyte. This process is initiated by the preovulatory surge of luteinizing hormone (LH), which leads to the up-regulation of various intraovarian mediators. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of VEGFR2 signaling in angiogenesis and vascular permeability

    Författare :Chiara Testini; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Mats Hellström; Mauro Giacca; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VEGFR2; angiogenesis; permeability; NRP1; Y949; Y1212; paladin; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis and vascular permeability occur in physiological and pathological conditions. Angiogenesis denotes the process of blood vessel formation from preexisting quiescent vessels. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular mechanisms of VEGF-mediated angiogenesis and vascular permeability

    Författare :Anna Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Angiogenesis; VEGF; vascular permeability;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, sprouting of new capillaries from pre-existing blood vessels, is a tightly regulated multi-step process. One of the key mediators in this process is the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). Many tumors express high levels of VEGF and pathological angiogenesis is considered a hallmark of malignant tumor growth. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Vascular actions of antimicrobial peptides

    Författare :Cristina Ciornei; Sektion II; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; vascular smooth muscle; sepsis; nitric oxide; human antimicrobial peptide LL-37; Antimicrobial peptides; lipopolysaccharide; bactericidal permeability-increasing protein;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis focuses on the vascular effects of antimicrobial peptides especially mechanisms involving the vasodilator nitric oxide (NO), which is released from the blood vessel wall during inflammatory conditions such as sepsis. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide stimulates the expression of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), which increases the NO production in vascular tissues or cultured vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). LÄS MER
