36. 99mTc-DMSA renal scintigraphy in the diagnosis and follow-up of acute pyelonephritis in children
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to define and evaluate a strategy for identification of children who are at risk of developing progressive renal lesions after acute pyelonephritis. Tc-DMSA renal scintigraphy is widely accepted as the most sensitive method for detecting parenchymal lesions and diagnosing acute pyelonephritis. LÄS MER
37. Internal Dosimetry in Nuclear Fuel Fabrication : Occupational Exposure to Uranium Aerosols
Sammanfattning : The production of nuclear fuel can be associated with occupational exposure to ionizing radiation from radioactive decay of uranium. Such exposure must be sufficiently low and radiation doses adequately determined. Radiation doses from internal exposure, i.e. LÄS MER
38. Estrogen receptor and multixenobiotic resistance genes in freshwater fish and snails: identification and expression analysis after pharmaceutical exposure
Sammanfattning : Pharmaceuticals are today released into aquatic environments where they can interfere with organisms' biological processes. The general research objective was to analyze how aquatic freshwater organisms are affected by exposure to pharmaceuticals that are categorized by the EU as potential risk factors to the environment (i.e. LÄS MER
39. Long-term outcome of vesicoureteral reflux and reflux nephropathy in adults - clinical and radiological aspects
Sammanfattning : The aim was to study the long-term consequencies of vesicoureteral reflux and reflux nephropathy (RN) in adults, with regard to radiological progression, urinary tract infections, renal functional impairment, hypertension, and to determine if the extent of renal damage can predict the outcome. Attempts to differentiate between acquired and developmental renal damage were also made. LÄS MER
40. Nitric Oxide Synthase in Pancreatic Islets During Trauma and Parenteral Feeding
Sammanfattning : The influence of trauma (acute pancreatitis) or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) on pancreatic islet hormone secretion in relation to islet expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) was investigated. Acute pancreatitis resulted in an impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) which was found to be parallelled by a marked expression of iNOS and an exaggerated NO production in the pancreatic islets.
