  2. 2. Introducing a Clinically Applicable Ultrasound Method for the Study of Gastric Emptying in Health and Disease. A Study in Healthy Subjects and Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

    Författare :Gassan Darwiche; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []

    Sammanfattning : Abnormal gastric motor function, a frequent complication among the increasing diabetic population of the world, also includes other patient groups such as those many patients with functional dyspepsia. These facts stress the need for a reliable, safe, cost-effective, and simple technique for measuring gastric emptying. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Intestinal Bypass and Total Parenteral Nutrition: Changes in Gut Function and Morphology

    Författare :Mikael Ekelund; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; Surgery; Gastroenterologi; Gastro-enterology; Fysiologi; Physiology; total parenteral nutrition; supersensitivity; plasticity; intestinal bypass; interstitial cells of Cajal; goblet cells; eosinophils; adaptation; enteric nervous system;

    Sammanfattning : Abolition of enteral nutrition is sometimes required in severe illness. The primary aim of the present work has been to elucidate possible changes in intestinal morphology and motor function in absence of enteral nutrition. Total absence of enteral nutrition in an isolated intestinal segment was created by bypassing the distal ileum in a rat model. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (PiZ): Clinical studies with special regard to hepatic and vasculitic disorders

    Författare :Abdul-Nasser Elzouki; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []

    Sammanfattning : Homozygous alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT)deficiency (PiZZ) is known to predispose to emphysema and chronic liver disease (CLD). The overall aim of the studies upon which this thesis is based was to investigate extra-pulmonary disease manifestations of AAT deficiency with special reference to hepatic and vasculitic disorders. 5. 5. Effects of Total Parenteral Nutrition on the Exocrine and Endocrine Pancreas. An Experimental Study

    Författare :Bo-Guang Fan; Lund Kirurgi; []

    Sammanfattning : During total parenteral nutrition (TPN) adequate nutrition is provided intravenously and the enteral route is bypassed. The integrity of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, however, is dependent on the passage of food through it. This thesis deals with the effects of TPN on the pancreas and the parotid glands. LÄS MER
