41. Aspects of renal blood flow and oxygenation in acute kidney injury during severe infections
Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Severe infections/sepsis is the most common aetiology, and about half of patients treated in the ICU due to sepsis are affected. Although AKI often resolves over time, the development of AKI decreases the chances of surviving. LÄS MER
42. Development of a robust and rapid microfluidics-based antibiotic susceptibility test : From prototype to clinical implementation
Sammanfattning : Even though bacteria normally are rapidly cleared from the blood by the immune system, a blood stream infection may arise, in turn possibly leading to sepsis and septic shock. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition, where the inflammatory response to infection targets tissues and organs. LÄS MER
43. The epidemiology of risk factors and short and long-term outcome in the Swedish intensive care cohort
Sammanfattning : Dissertation presented at Uppsala University to be publicly examined on Zoom: https://uu-se.zoom.us/j/7214327760, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 at 13:00 for the degree of Licentiate of Philosophy (Faculty of Medicine). The examination will be conducted in English and Swedish. LÄS MER
44. Plasmin : a potent pro-inflammatory factor
Sammanfattning : Plasmin, the central molecule of the plasminogen activator system, is a broad-spectrum serine protease. Plasmin is important for the degradation of fibrin and other components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) during a number of physiological and pathological processes. LÄS MER
45. Biomolecules at Interfaces -Studied by Surface and Solution Techniques
Sammanfattning : The interfacial behaviour of biomolecules in general and proteins in particular is interesting from a biochemical point of view since proteins are involved in processes such as complement activation, blood coagulation and atherosclerotic plaque formation, but also in the context of biomedical applications such as solid-phase diagnostics, therapeutic aphaeresis and biosensors. The objective of this thesis is to study biomolecular interactions using surface sensitive biosensor techniques such as surface plasmon resonance, SPR, in combination with bulk techniques. LÄS MER
