  1. 1. Depth Profiling of the Passive Layer on Stainless Steel using Photoelectron Spectroscopy

    Författare :Wendy Fredriksson; Kristina Edström; Fredrik Björefors; Sannakaisa Virtanen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; depth profile; stainless steel; passive film; XPS; HAXPES; corrosion; powder metallurgical; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The physical properties of the protective passive films formed on the surface of stainless steels under electrochemical polarization in different electrolytes were studied. The structure of these films was analyzed as a function of depth using photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Passivity & Breakdown of Super Duplex Stainless Steel : Studied with Electrochemical & Synchrotron Techniques

    Författare :Marie Långberg; Jinshan Pan; David Lindell; Ulf Kivisäkk; Edvin Lundgren; Sannakaisa Virtanen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Passive film; duplex stainless steel; synchrotron X-ray reflectivity; X-ray diffraction; X-ray fluorescence; hard X-ray Photoelectron emission microscopy; X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy; Electrochemical impedance; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Super duplex stainless steel consists of two phases: austenite and ferrite, and is a highly corrosion resistant material, with a wide range of applications. The corrosion resistance of stainless steels is determined by the performance of a spontaneously formed thin Cr oxide rich film with a thickness of 1-3 nm. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metal Particles – Hazard or Risk? Elaboration and Implementation of a Research Strategy from a Surface and Corrosion Perspective

    Sammanfattning : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. LÄS MER
