  1. 1. Machinability variations in Alloy 718 —With focus on machining of turbine components

    Författare :Pajazit Avdovic; Industriell Produktion; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; polar diagram; flank wear; ceramic tool; variation in material; tool wear; tool life; machinability; Inconel; Alloy 718; Machining; notch wear;

    Sammanfattning : In gas turbine engine, nickel base alloy, such as Alloy 718, accounts for almost half of the total material requirement. Nickel-base superalloys are used for gas turbine components mainly because of their outstanding strength and resistance to oxidation at high temperatures (> 550°C). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Optimisation of Machining Operations by means of Finite Element Method and Tailored Experiments

    Författare :Amir Malakizadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Usui wear model; Bi-metals; Flank wear; Johnson-Cook; Inverse identification; Metal cutting; Thermal fatigue cracking; Wear modelling; Finite element method; Response surface methodology;

    Sammanfattning : Traditionally, costly experimental procedures have been followed in industry to optimise the machining operations to secure the maximum efficiency in production line, while the functional requirements of the machined surfaces are fulfilled. In recent years, development of robust numerical techniques such as Finite Element Method (FEM) and advances in computing capacity of computers have made it possible to simulate the machining operations under operational conditions. 3. 3. Wear of piston rings in hydrostatic transmissions

    Författare :Ulf Skytte af Sätra; Sören Andersson; Kenneth Holmberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; piston ring; surface roughness; texture; coating; wear; hydraulic motor; Construction engineering; Konstruktionsteknik; Mechanical engineering; Maskinteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This study focuses on the wear of piston rings in a hydraulic radial piston motor. The piston ring has to satisfy increasing demands for reliability and longer service life. It has two contacting surfaces, the face and the flank, and operates under a boundary lubrication state. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Influence of Microstructure in Machining of Nickel and Nickel-Iron Based Alloys

    Författare :Stefan Olovsjö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wear mechanisms; Simulation; Tool wear; Burr; Meta-modelling; Inconel 718; Metal cutting; Superalloy; Waspaloy; Chip morphology; Notch wear; Alloy 718; JMatPro;

    Sammanfattning : Superalloys are used in applications such as turbines, steam power plants and nuclear power systems in components that require good high temperature properties and/or corrosion resistance. They are classified as difficult-to-cut materials and hence, from a sustainable production point of view, tool wear and tool life are major factors when machining these alloys. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Machinability variations in alloy 718 turbine components

    Författare :Pajazit Avdovic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; variation in tool; hardness; Machining; flank wear; notch wear; alloy 718; grain size; instability; variation in material;

    Sammanfattning : Machinability Variations in Alloy 718 Turbine Components PAJAZIT AVDOVIC Department of Materials and Manufacturing TechnologyChalmers University of Technology AbstractAlloy 718 has a reputation for being very troublesome during the cutting process. It was suspected that this material was too hard and having too fine grain size and that these characteristics caused damage to cutting tools during processing. LÄS MER
