6. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY
Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 7. On intestinal ischaemia after aortoiliac surgery : Epidemiological, clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : An important cause of death among patients undergoing surgery of the abdominal aorta is intestinal ischaemia. In the Swedish Vascular Registry 2930 aortoiliac operations were identified. The complication was studied in a combined cohort and case-control study, and multivariate analysis performed. The incidence of intestinal ischaemia was 2. LÄS MER
8. Platelet microparticles and hemostatic disturbances in renal insufficiency and cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affect up to 10-15% of the population worldwide and is a growing global health problem. Diabetes, hypertension and renal diseases, such as glomerulonephritis, are the major cause of CKD in high- and middle-income countries. LÄS MER
9. Studies on treatment of renal anemia in patients on chronic hemodialysis
Sammanfattning : In patients with chronic kidney disease, treatment with erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESA) effectively corrects anemia. Most of these patients also need supplementation with regular iron injections to secure iron availability for proper erythropoiesis. LÄS MER
10. Low molecular mass proteins as markers for renal function and dialysis efficiency
Sammanfattning : Kidney disease is a growing problem in the whole world. It is important to find these patients in an early state of the disease because then they can be treated and dialysis treatment can be avoided. To measure the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) an invasive technigue is used. LÄS MER
