  1. 1. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY

    Författare :Karl Kristensen; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; Obstetrics; pregnancy; renal function; serum amyloid A protein; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; preeclampsia; beta-2 microglobulin; C-reactive protein; cystatin C; inflammation; placenta; beta trace protein; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 2. 2. Neurochemical and neuroendocrine reactions during non-neurological surgery

    Författare :Rolf Anckarsäter; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :albumin; beta-2-microglobulin; blood brain barrier; cerebrospinal fluid; infammation; spinal anesthesia; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Objective: To study changes in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteins, monoamine metabolites and hormones during non-neurological surgery. Subjects and methods: Thirty-five patients without neurological or psychiatric disorders undergoing knee replacements had CSF and serum samples drawn from spinal and arterial catheters before, three hours after and on the morning after surgery. 3. 3. Antiretroviral treatment of HIV-1 in the central nervous system

    Författare :Aylin Yilmaz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1; cerebrospinal fluid; antiretroviral treatment; lopinavir; saquinavir; nelfinavir; neopterin; beta-2-microglobulin; HIV-1 RNA; IgG index; blood-brain barrier; albumin ratio; ultra-ultra sensitive PCR;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 invades the central nervous system (CNS) early in the infectious course. It establishes a chronic progressive infection, and triggers an intrathecal immune response. If left untreated, a majority of patients will develop neurological complications, caused by opportunistic pathogens or HIV-1 itself. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Uveal melanoma : cytogenetics, molecular biology and tumor immunology

    Författare :Charlotta All-Ericsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Uveal melanoma; prognostic markers; treatment; CGH; chromosomal aberrations; HLA; IHC; Western blotting; IGF-1R; c-kit; STT571;

    Sammanfattning : Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy. The metastatic spread is hematogenous and exclusively to the liver. Although eye-sparing treatments are used more frequently the tumor-related mortality in uveal melanoma is still 30-50%. Only 2% of the patients have detectable metastases at the time of diagnosis. 5. 5. Mechanisms underlying impaired humoral immunity in primary and chronic HIV-1 infection

    Författare :Kehmia Titanji; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1 infection; HIV-2 infection; B cells; primary HIV-1 infection; immune activation; hypergammaglobulinemia; long-term humoral immunity; antiretroviral therapy;

    Sammanfattning : B cells of HIV-1-infected patients have both phenotypic and functional dysfunctions which may be important in HIV-1 pathogenesis. Immune activation during HIV infection is an essential part of the body s defense against the virus, but may be the root cause of B cell dysfunctions. LÄS MER
