1. On intestinal ischaemia after aortoiliac surgery : Epidemiological, clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : An important cause of death among patients undergoing surgery of the abdominal aorta is intestinal ischaemia. In the Swedish Vascular Registry 2930 aortoiliac operations were identified. The complication was studied in a combined cohort and case-control study, and multivariate analysis performed. The incidence of intestinal ischaemia was 2. LÄS MER
2. Acute limb ischaemia : Treatment, outcome and time trends
Sammanfattning : Acute limb ischaemia (ALI) is a frequent emergency associated with high rates of amputation and death. Traditionally, patients with ALI were treated with open surgical removal of the occlusion or bypass surgery. During the past few decades, new endovascular techniques developed. LÄS MER
3. On leg ischaemia : aspects of epidemiology and diagnostics
Sammanfattning : The first part of this thesis consists of a population-based epidemiological study on symptomatic leg arterial disease in a Swedish community, based on a postal questionnaire and systolic ankle pressure measurements, with calculation of the ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI; usually ≥ 1.0 in healthy subjects). 4. Outcomes of invasive treatment in chronic limb-threatening ischaemia
Sammanfattning : Background In chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI), obstruction of the arterial blood flow causes ischaemic rest pain, ulcers or gangrene in the lower extremities. Patients with CLTI have a substantial risk of amputation unless the blood flow is improved, which requires invasive treatment through either open surgery or endovascular intervention. LÄS MER
5. Effects of Ischaemia on the Neuroretina and Retinal Blood Vessels
Sammanfattning : Identification of the intracellular signal transduction pathways activated in retinal ischaemia may be important in revealing novel pharmacological targets. The retinal blood vessels are key organs in circulatory failure, and in this work the retinal vasculature was therefore examined separately from the neuroretina. LÄS MER
