  1. 1. Effects of Delayed versus Early Cord Clamping on Healthy Term Infants

    Författare :Ola Andersson; Lena Hellström-Westas; Magnus Domellöf; Heike Rabe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; active management; birth; breast feeding; cord clamping; ferritin; growth; haemoglobin; human infant; infections; iron; iron deficiency; iron deficiency anemia; iron status; morbidity; neurodevelopment; randomised controlled trial; umbilical cord; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study maternal and infant effects of delayed cord clamping (≥180 seconds, DCC) compared to early (≤10 seconds, ECC) in a randomised controlled trial. Practice and guidelines regarding when to clamp the cord vary globally, and different meta-analyses have shown contradictory conclusions on benefits and disadvantages of DCC and ECC. LÄS MER

  2. 2. IRON NUTRITION DURING EARLY CHILDHOOD. Factors influencing iron status and iron intake

    Författare :Ann-Cathrine Bramhagen; Preventiv pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; feeding situation; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Pediatrics; Medicin människa och djur ; iron deficiency; Pediatri; maternal experinces; influencing factors; iron intake; child*;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the prevalence of iron deficiency (ID) and factors influencing iron status and iron intake among otherwise healthy children. The specific aim in paper I+II was to describe the prevalence of ID among 2 ½-year-old children in relation to intake of cow's milk and follow-on formula. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional Models for Non-heme Mononuclear Iron Oxygenases

    Författare :Mainak Mitra; Kemisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioinorganic chemistry; Iron; Oxygenases; Catalysis;

    Sammanfattning : Non-heme mononuclear iron oxygenases catalyze a large number of oxidation reactions in biological systems. The reactions are often proposed to proceed via the intermediacy of high valent Fe(IV) oxo (ferryl) or, Fe(V) oxo (perferryl) intermediates. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Manganese and Iron Heterodimers and Homodimers in Enzymes : Insights from Density Functional Theory

    Författare :Katarina Roos; Per Siegbahn; Margareta R. A. Blomberg; Frank Neese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribonucleotide reductase; manganese; iron; density functional theory; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The enzyme ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) catalyzes the reduction of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides, the building blocks of DNA, and is essential for all organisms. Canonical class I RNR R2 proteins use a diiron cofactor to generate a tyrosyl radical, which is required for catalysis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Clinical impact of epoetins in the treatment of anemia with special emphasis on patients with lymphoid malignancies. : dosing, iron supplementation and safety

    Författare :Michael Hedenus; Jack Lindh; Anders Österborg; Robert Hast; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anemia; cancer; lymphoproliferative malignancies; erythropoietin; intravenous iron; safety; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to determine the relevant dose of arbepoetin-alfa (DA) in patients with lymphoproliferative diseases (LPD) and chemotherapy induced anemia (CIA), to study the clinical impact of intravenous (IV) iron supplementation combined with epoetin beta treatment, to identify factors that might predict hemoglobin (Hb) response to treatment with epoetins and to investigate safety of DA.A dose-finding phase II study was able to assess a reasonable DA dose of 2.
