16. Uncertainty, Worth, Identity : How Early Career Academics Navigate Evaluative Landscapes
Sammanfattning : This dissertation explores the interplay between valuation and academic socialization, addressing the question: how do early career academics navigate evaluative landscapes? Having completed their doctoral education but yet to find stable employment, early career academics are generally viewed as the most vulnerable group of academic staff. Comparing how individuals within this group seek to demonstrate their worth in order to be recognized by others and advance in their careers, I try to make sense of their world. LÄS MER
17. As valid as it can be? : The assessment of prior learning in higher education
Sammanfattning : Assessment of prior learning (APL) represents the task to identify and acknowledge an individual’s knowledge and skills regardless of how it has been obtained. In higher education this type of assessment is primarily used for the purpose of awarding access, credits or advanced standing. LÄS MER
18. Biologically-Based Interactive Neural Network Models for Visual Attention and Object Recognition
Sammanfattning : The main focus of this thesis is to develop biologically-based computational models for object recognition. A series of models for attention and object recognition were developed in the order of increasing functionality and complexity. LÄS MER
19. Stochastic Multi-Agent Plan Recognition, Knowledge Representation and Simulations for Efficient Decision Making
Sammanfattning : Advances in information technology produce large sets of data for decision makers. In both military and civilian efforts to achieve decision superiority, decision makers have to act agilely with proper, adequate and relevant information available. Information fusion is a process aimed to support decision makers’ situation awareness. LÄS MER
20. Object Detection and Recognition in Unstructured Outdoor Environments
Sammanfattning : Computer vision and machine learning based systems are often developed to replace humans in harsh, dangerous, or tedious situations, as well as to reduce the required time to accomplish a task. Another goal is to increase performance by introducing automation to tasks such as inspections in manufacturing applications, sorting timber during harvesting, surveillance, fruit grading, yield prediction, and harvesting operations.
