  1. 26. Long-term radiobiological effects of 131I exposure - dose, age and time related transcriptomatic and proteomic rasponse in rats

    Författare :Malin Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiation; thyroid; plasma; late effects; biomarkers; transcript; protein;

    Sammanfattning : 131I is commonly used in the clinic for treating thyroid diseases, using the physiological uptake of iodine in thyroid, but also for other target tissues. 131I is also commonly released during nuclear accidents. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Targeting and function of CAH1 : Characterization of a novel protein pathway to the plant cell chloroplast

    Författare :Stefan Burén; Göran Samuelsson; Muriel Bardor; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; chloroplast; endomembrane system; CAH1; protein targeting; N-glycosylation; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The chloroplast is the organelle within a plant cell where photosynthesis takes place. This organelle originates from a cyanobacterium that was engulfed by a eukaryotic cell. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Glypican-1: Structural and functional analysis of the N-glycosylated human protein

    Författare :Wael Awad Abdelhady; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteoglycans; glypicans; glypican-1; heparan sulphate; N-glycosylation; exostosin-proteins; X-ray crystallography; crystal dehydration; diffraction anisotropy; Small angle X-ray scattering SAXS9; protein spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Glypicans are multifunctional cell surface heparan sulphate proteoglycans co-regulating numerous signalling pathways, and are thereby involved in the control of cellular division, differentiation, and morphogenesis. The heparan sulphate (HS) chains are responsible for many of those biological functions; nevertheless recent studies suggest functional roles for the glypican core proteins in mediating the signalling of various growth factors. 4. 29. Glucose and lipid metabolism in insulin resistance : an experimental study in fat cells

    Författare :Jonas Burén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; adipocyte; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes; insulin signalling; glucose uptake; insulin; glucose; dexamethasone; insulin receptor substrate; protein kinase B; GLUT4; lipoprotein lipase; Folkhälsomedicin; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by a combination of pancreatic β-cell failure and insulin resistance in target tissues like liver, muscle and fat. Insulin resistance is characterised by an impaired effect of insulin to reduce hepatic glucose production and to promote glucose uptake in peripheral tissues. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Apoptosis induced by a human milk protein complex. Cellular and structural studies in tumour cells and bacteria

    Författare :Anders Håkansson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; nuclear uptake; caspases; mitochondria; S. pneumoniae; alpha-lactalbumin; milk; breast-feeding; Apoptosis; tumour cells; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human milk contains a vast array of bioactive molecules, with nutritional and protective functions. This thesis describes the effects of a human milk protein complex, MAL, on tumour cells and bacteria. During our studies on the anti-adhesive properties of human milk we observed that a milk fraction killed tumour cells. LÄS MER
