31. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation
Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates. 32. Cell-penetrating peptides : Uptake mechanism and the role of receptors
Sammanfattning : Genes are the major regulators of biological processes in every living thing. Problems with gene regulation can cause serious problems for the organism; for example, most cancers have some kind of genetic component. Regulation of biological processes using oligonucleotides can potentially be a therapy for any ailment, not just cancer. LÄS MER
33. Molecular aspects of retinol uptake and activation
Sammanfattning : Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) are essential for a wide variety of physiological processes, including embryonic development, growth, vision, reproduction, and maintenance of various epithelia and the immune system. 11-Cis-retinal serves as the chromophore of the visual pigments in the retina, whereas the hormonal retinoids, all-trans and 9-cis retinoic acid (RA), regulate the non-visual functions via activation of nuclear retinoid receptors (RARs and RXRs). 34. Sustainable Biobased Protein Superabsorbents from Agricultural Co-Products
Sammanfattning : The preparation of sustainable protein superabsorbents from agricultural industry side-streams is reported. Wheat gluten (WG), a co-product from the ethanol/starch industry, was processed into foams with sponge-like behavior and high liquid uptake. LÄS MER
35. Adrenergic stimulation of glucose uptake in brown adipocytes
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate adrenergically stimulated glucose uptake in brown adipose tissue (BAT) with the focus on receptor subtypes and intracellular signalling pathways. As a model system, we used primary cultured brown adipocytes. LÄS MER
