1. Protein-protein interactions in model systems : design, control of catalytic activity and biosensor applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design of polypeptides, unordered in the monomeric state but capable of folding into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to form four-helix bundles. The goal of the design was to encode them with the capacity to form dimers highly selectively and the ability to carry out molecular functions in the folded state but not in the unordered state, and thus to establish a molecular link between recognition and function. 2. Engineering carbonic anhydrase for highly selective ester hydrolysis
3. Exploring the Wood Adhesive Performance of Wheat Gluten
Sammanfattning : The increasing environmental concern has reawakened an interest in materials based on renewable resources as replacement for petroleum-based materials. The main objective of this thesis was to explore plant proteins, more specifically wheat gluten, as a binder in wood adhesives intended for typical solid wood applications such as furniture and flooring. 4. Ribosomal Stalk Protein L12 : Structure, Function and Application
Sammanfattning : Ribosomal stalk proteins are known to play important role in protein synthesis. The ‘stalk’, an extended structure on the large subunit of the ribosome is composed mainly of two to three dimers of L12 and one L10 protein, which forms the base of the stalk. In E. LÄS MER
5. Computational Protein Evolution : Modeling the Selectivity and Promiscuity of Engineered Enzymes
Sammanfattning : Enzymes are biological catalysts that significantly increase the rate of all biochemical reactions that take place within cells and are essential to maintain life. Many questions regarding their function remain unknown. LÄS MER
