16. Function of contractile and cytoskeletal proteins in smooth muscle: Effects of hypertrophy and age and desmin removal in a transgenic animal
Sammanfattning : In man, the urinary bladder responds to an urinary outflow obstruction with a pronounced dilatation and growth of the bladder wall. This clinical situation can be mimicked in rat by creation of a partial urinary outflow obstruction and the papers included in the present thesis use this animal model to address questions regarding the adaptive changes in the smooth muscle of the growing bladder. 17. Outcomes of Myosin 1C Gene Expression Depletion on Cancer-related Pathways, in Vitro and in Clinical Samples
Sammanfattning : The unconventional myosin IC has previously been suggested to be a haploinsufficient tumour suppressor. The mechanism for this action has hitherto been unknown, however, and hence we decided to attempt to elucidate the genes involved. LÄS MER
18. Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Acute Quadriplegic Myopathy : Studies in Experimental Animal Models and Intensive Care Unit Patients
Sammanfattning : The combination of a severe systemic illness, corticosteroids, and neuromuscular blocking agents in patients on the mechanical ventilator often results in a condition known as Acute Quadriplegic Myopathy (AQM). While severe weakness of all spinal nerve innervated muscles is known to be a significant clinical characteristic of the disease, this symptom is typically not recognized until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. 20. Actin and myosin in transcription and chromatin regulation
Sammanfattning : In mammalian cells, actin and myosin have emerged as regulators of nuclear structure and function, involved in chromatin remodeling and histone modifications, and in different phases of gene transcription. Actin and myosin have also been shown to be incorporated into nascent ribonucleoprotein complexes. LÄS MER
