  1. 11. Mechanisms Underlying Intensive Care Unit Muscle Wasting : Intervention Strategies in an Experimental Animal Model and in Intensive Care Unit Patients

    Författare :Monica Llano-Diez; Lars Larsson; Marco Sandri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute quadriplegic myopathy; intensive care unit; myosin; regulation of contraction; muscle atrophy; mechanical loading; mobilization; Clinical Neurophysiology; Klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) commonly develop severe muscle wasting and weakness and consequently impaired muscle function. This not only delays respirator weaning and ICU discharge, but has deleterious effects on morbidity, mortality, financial costs, and quality of life of survivors. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Creation of a Nanometer-Scale Toolbox for Molecular Motor Transport-Circuits

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents studies of molecular motors in interaction with nm-scale structures, as well as the development of a set of tools that can be used for the construction of custom-designed nano-transportation systems. In our studies, we have used the latest nanoscale technology and combined this with advanced results from chemistry and biomedical sciences. LÄS MER

  3. 13. From Cell Shape to Body Shape: Epithelial Morphogenesis in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Shai Mulinari; Sociologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Odd-skipped; morphogenesis; Hedgehog; segment boundaries; segmental grooves; Actin; Drosophila; DRhoGEF2; Myosin; Diaphanous; Rho GTPase; cytoskeleton; Rho1;

    Sammanfattning : Embryonic development is associated with extensive rearrangements of tissues. The driving force for these rearrangements is generated by a dynamic reorganization of the Actin cytoskeleton of individual cells. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Myosin 1c taking adrenergic metabolism for a spin : More than a motor protein

    Författare :Alice Åslund; Tore Bengtsson; Michael Czech; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glucose uptake; Glucose transporter; Brown adipose tissue; White adipose tissue; Skeletal muscle; Myosin1c; Nuclear myosin I; Physiology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic diseases like type II diabetes (T2D) and obesity largely stems from an unbalanced energy homeostasis with the fails of the insulin pathway to the point in which the glucose homeostasis is severely disturbed leading to hyperglycemia. We have investigated if the β-adrenergic signaling pathways, in both brown adipose tissue (BAT) and skeletal muscle, could be used as a strategy to alleviate metabolic disease. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Characterization and optimization of the in vitro motility assay for fundamental studies of myosin II

    Författare :Malin Persson; Alf Månsson; Carlo Reggiani; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Myosin II; skeletal muscle; actomyosin; in vitro motility assay; protein adsorption; cargo transportation; CapZ; cross-bridge cycle; inter-head cooperativity; processivity; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Myosin II is the molecular motor responsible for muscle contraction. It transforms the chemical energy in ATP into mechanical work while interacting with actin filaments in so called cross-bridge cycles. Myosin II or its proteolytic fragments e.g. LÄS MER
