  1. 11. The use of adipose derived stem cells in spinal cord and peripheral nerve repair

    Författare :Mallappa K Kolar; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; spinal cord injury; peripheral nerve injury; adipose derived stem cells; regeneration; neurotrophic factor; angiogenic factor;

    Sammanfattning : Clinically, injuries affecting the spinal cord or peripheral nerves can leave those affected with severe disability and, at present, there are limited options for treatment. Peripheral nerve injury with a significant gap between the proximal and distal stumps is currently treated with autologous nerve grafting but this is limited by availability of donor nerve and has associated morbidities. 2. 12. Altered cell signaling linked to neurodegeneration : Studies on scrapie-infected neuroblastoma cells and activated microglia

    Författare :Christina Svensson; Tiit Land; Gianluigi Forloni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prion disease; Inflammation; MAPK; Microglia activation; Neuroblastoma; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prion diseases are neurodegenerative disorders that can affect humans and animals. The underlying event is a conformational change of the normal cellular prion protein (PrPC) into an aberrant isoform termed PrP-scrapie (PrPSc). PrPSc is thought to lead to neurodegeneration and activation of glial cells. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Microglial Glutamate Transporters - Regulation of Expression and Possible Physiological Functions

    Författare :Mikael Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :anaphylatoxin; central nervous system; herpes simplex virus; glutamate transport; glutathione; GLT-1; lipopolysaccharide; microglia; neuroinflammation; oxidative stress; protection; tumour necrosis factor-alpha;

    Sammanfattning : Microglia are considered as the immunocompetent cells of the central nervous system (CNS). Being the first line of defence, they have prominent roles in monitoring the homeostasis and the extracellular milieu and can rapidly and specifically react to any disturbances such as brain trauma, ischemia, neurodegenerative diseases, or infections. 4. 14. Host-parasite interactions in the dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii

    Författare :Sachie Kanatani; Antonio Barragan; Per Uhlén; Isabelle Tardieux; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; dendritic cells; microglia; cell migration; 14-3-3 proteins; GABAergic signaling; voltage-dependent calcium channel; host-parasite interaction; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects virtually all warm-blooded organisms. Systemic dissemination of T. gondii in the organism can cause life-threatening infection that manifests as Toxoplasma encephalitis in immune-compromised patients. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Deciphering and fine-tuning of myeloid cells in CNS demyelinating conditions

    Författare :Keying Zhu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Demyelination in the central nervous system (CNS) is a characteristic of various neurological disorders, such as multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica (NMO), subacute combined degeneration (SCD), tabes dorsalis (syphilitic myelopathy), and more. Although the causes vary, CNS demyelination is often associated with a significant buildup of inflammatory activated myeloid cells, mainly consisting of CNS resident microglia and infiltrating monocyte-derived macrophages.
