  3. 3. Role of interleukin-1 in fever and inflammation

    Författare :Maria Zetterström; Charles A. Dinarello; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The proinflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL) -1α, IL-1β and IL-6 are key mediators in the host's response to injury and infection. One of the systemic responses elicited by these proinflammatory cytokines, when injected peripherally or centrally, is fever. Thus, these proteins may act as endogenous pyrogens. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On inflammatory cytokines and β-amyloid peptides in acute and chronic neurodegeneration

    Författare :Roya Tehranian; Gianluigi Forloni; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Insults to the brain as well as neurodegenerative diseases are known to elicit inflammatory responses. Inflammation in the brain can on one hand initiate processes that are harmful to the injured tissue and exacerbate the damage, leading to neuronal degeneration and glial activation, and on the other hand activate processes that may be necessary for repair mechanisms and regeneration. 5. 5. Temporal events in neuronal differentiation and cell death : expression and processing of the Alzheimer's amyloid precursor protein family and a protein at the nuclear pore

    Författare :Marie Beckman; Kerstin Iverfeldt; David H. Small; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present study had two major objectives: 1) to elucidate the involvement of Alzheimer’s amyloid precursor protein (APP) family in neuronal differentiation, and the effect of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-linked mutation APPV642I on signal transduction; 2) to investigate the fate of the nuclear pore complex protein POM121 during apoptosis and to examine the possibility of using green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labelled POM121 as a non-invasive sensor of apoptosis in living (non-fixed) cells.APP is the parent protein of the b-amyloid peptide, which is the major peptide constituent in the “senile plaques” of AD.
