  1. 16. Advancing isothermal nucleic acid amplification tests : Towards democratization of diagnostics

    Författare :Felix Neumann; Mats Nilsson; Paul Yager; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; molecular diagnostics; infectious diseases; point-of-care; digital quantification; fluorescence detection; rolling circle amplification; padlock probes; microfluidic enrichment; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Modern healthcare is the result of scientific advancement across disciplines and has enabled us to understand the rationale behind many diseases and how to treat or cure them; but still a myriad of unanswered questions remains. Especially infectious diseases play an important role in healthcare as they pose a constant threat for global health and well-being. LÄS MER

  2. 17. GB virus C/hepatitis G virus infection: clinical, histological and epidemiological aspects

    Författare :Per Björkman; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endoscopy; nosocomial; sexual transmission; parenteral transmission; blood donor; ALT; liver disease; hepatitis; GBV-C HGV; HCV; Infections; Infektioner;

    Sammanfattning : GBV-C/HGV is a blood-borne virus related to the hepatitis C virus. We studied GBV-C/HGV infection in different populations, its transmission, and its association with liver disease. GBV-C/HGV viraemia was detected by PCR in 19/576 blood donors. Donors with normal and elevated ALT levels had similar rates of viraemia (1. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Cytomegalovirus Infection in Immunocompetent and Renal Transplant Patients : Clinical Aspects and T-cell Specific Immunity

    Författare :Fredrik Sund; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Olle Korsgren; Halvor Rollag; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytomegalovirus; renal transplantation; cellular immunity; valacyclovir; mismatched; prophylaxis; tetramer; CD4 T cells; CD8 T cells; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a β-herpesvirus that, after primary infection, establishes a life-long persistence in the human host. Up to 90% of humans are infected with CMV, that is kept under control by CMV-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. In patients with an impaired cellular immunity, however, CMV infections can be life-threatening. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Herpesvirus Infection and Immunity in Neurocognitive Disorders

    Författare :Gabriel Westman; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Martin Ingelsson; Olle Korsgren; Jan Ernerudh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Herpes simplex encephalitis; Herpesvirus; Cytomegalovirus; CMV; HSV-1; HHV-6; CD8 T-cells; Cellular immunity; Immunosenescence; Autoimmunity; NMDA receptor; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Herpesviruses have co-speciated with several vertebrate and invertebrate animals throughout the history of evolution. In the immunocompetent human host, primary infection is usually benign, whereafter the virus is brought into life-long latency. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Serum Amyloid A Protein (SAA) in Healthy and Infected Individuals

    Författare :Anders Lannergård; Göran Friman; Anders Larsson; Uwe Ewald; Jonas Hedlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; acute phase proteins; adult; Administration Oral; aminoglycosides; amyloidosis; antibiotics; bacterial infections; body temperature; C-reactive protein; cefuroxime; cystitis; cytokines; elderly; infant; interleukin-6; newborn; pyelonephritis; serum amyloid A protein; virus diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is an acute phase protein that has recently gained increasing interest as a potential marker for disease and treatment monitoring. We investigated SAA and CRP levels in (a) patients with various common infectious diseases (n=98), (b) patients with pyelonephritis (n=37) versus patients with cystitis (n=32), (c) healthy individuals of varying ages (n=231), (d) very immature newborn infants with or without nosocomial infections (NIs) (n=72) and (e) patients with bacterial infections treated with cefuroxime (n=81).
