1. Moments on a City Bus : Micro-sociology of Non-verbal Interaction in Urban Bus-riding
Sammanfattning : This thesis seeks to contribute to research on social interaction in public (and semi-public) places in general, and research on non-verbal mundane interaction in these places in particular. By paying empirical attention to the non-verbal interaction that takes place in the context of riding a city bus – which is a contained and time-limited form of social activity – this thesis explores the theoretically rich source of information about mundane interaction that this specific social activity offers. 2. A Treatise on the Geometric and Electronic Structure of Clusters : Investigated by Synchrotron Radiation Based Electron Spectroscopies
Sammanfattning : Clusters are finite ensembles of atoms or molecules with sizes in the nanometer regime (i.e. nanoparticles). This thesis present results on the geometric and electronic structure of homogeneous and heterogeneous combinations of atoms and molecules. LÄS MER
3. Heterogeneous Adsorption in Chiral LC
Sammanfattning : The adsorption of chiral drugs on proteins immobilized on silica shows an heterogeneous adsorption behavior on multiple sites. The theory of nonlinear chromatography was used for a systematic study on this behavior - linear chromatography can only measure the "global" retention. LÄS MER
4. Structure and dynamics of amyloid-beta oligomers
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia, affects tens of millions of people all over the world and inflicts huge socioeconomic costs on the societies. AD is a neurodegenerative disease; it progresses over time and is highly debilitating at the advanced stages. LÄS MER
5. Experimental studies of ice particle formation with tropospheric relevance
Sammanfattning : In their fourth assessment report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change points out the influence of particles suspended in air, known as an aerosol, as the main uncertainty in the understanding of the climate system. Aerosols affect climate in a number of ways. LÄS MER
