26. PET studies on the immune cell marker TSPO in first episode psychosis patients
Sammanfattning : Several lines of evidence are indicative of a role for immune activation in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Nevertheless, studies using positron emission tomography (PET) and radioligands for the translocator protein (TSPO), a marker for glial activation, have yielded inconsistent results. LÄS MER
27. Alzheimer Aβ peptides induce dysregulation of C/EBP and NF-кB in glial cells
Sammanfattning : Inflammation is believed to contribute to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). AD in turn is believed to be a consequence of accumulated amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides, that subsequently form senile plaques, due to imbalance between production and clearance of Aβ. LÄS MER
28. Inflammatory cytokines and NFκB in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by extracellular senile plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles. The main constituent of the senile plaques is the neurotoxic β-amyloid peptide. LÄS MER
29. Role of Neuropeptides and Neurotrophic Factors in Seizure Modulation
Sammanfattning : The presented thesis explores role of glial cell line derived neurotrophic factor family receptor a2 (GFRa2), as well as neuropeptide Y (NPY) and galanin and their receptors in modulation of seizure activity. We demonstrate that mice lacking the GFRa2 gene (GFRa2-/-) exhibit suppressed seizure generalization in traditional and rapid kindling models. LÄS MER
30. Reactive gliosis in the injured brain: The effect of cell communication and Nrf2-mediated cellular defence
Sammanfattning : Stroke and other brain injuries trigger an extensive glial cell response referred to as reactive gliosis. Reactive gliosis is characterized by hypertrophic and proliferating astrocytes, proliferating microglia and NG2-positive cells, which eventually form a bordering glial scar around the damaged area.
