  1. 11. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor : expression patterns, neuronal transport, regulation, effects, and receptor dependence

    Författare :Andreas C Tomac; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor GDNF ; neurturin NTN ; persephin PSP ; c Ret proto oncogene Ret ; GPI-linked receptors for the GDNF ligand family GFRas ; transforming growth factor-B TGFB ; Parkinson s disease PD ; dopaminergic DA neurons;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The mammalian nervous system depends upon trophic proteins for survival, growth and adult maintenance. These trophic factors have also been considered as potential therapeutic agents for treating human neurodegenerative disorders. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Ion Transport in Glial and Neuroblastoma Cells

    Författare :Sonya K. A. Juthberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to increase our understanding of the ion channel function and the ion transport mechanisms in glial cells. The analysis has also covered Na channel function in human neuroblastoma cells in order to get a basis for similar studies of glial cells In paper I isotopes 42K and 201 Tl were used to compare the K+ transport properties in cell lines from human malignant gliomas (U-251MG and Tp-378MG), carcinomas, and brain metastasis. 3. 13. Glial cell responses, complement and clusterin expression after lesions in central or peripheral nervous system

    Författare :Li Liu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Glia; Complement; Clusterin; Proliferation; Peripheral nerve injury; Spinal cord injury; Rhizotomy; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present Thesis examines the expression and role of complement and the complement regulator clusterin after central or peripheral axon injury in relation to the responses of non-neuronal cells. Following peripheral sensory nerve injury, complement was expressed in the spinal cord and brain stem in association with reactive microglia, which also appeared to be a local source of complement. 4. 14. Experimental studies on glioma cell motility and proliferation

    Författare :Adila Salih El-Obeid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; glioma; TGF-α; EGFR; GFAP; motility; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Glioma is a malignant primary brain tumor associated with short patient survival. Various growth factors and cytoskeletal proteins are correlated to glioma progression. In this thesis the effects of transforming growth factor alpha (TGFα) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) were studied. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Lithium and brain plasticity - studies on glial cell changes and electroconvulsive treatment-induced amnesia in rats

    Författare :Karin Orre; Enheten för psykiatrisk neuromodulering (PNU); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lithium; electroconvulsive seizures; mood disorder; gliogenesis; amnesia; oligodendrogenesis; myelination; NG2 cells;

    Sammanfattning : Depression and bipolar disorder, collectively known as mood disorders, are devastating, common and often chronic illnesses. Imaging studies of patients with mood disorders have demonstrated structural changes in several brain regions implicated in mood regulation. LÄS MER
