6. Biogas generation in landfills : equilibria, rates & yields
Sammanfattning : Landfilling in "cells" has become more common in recent years. Different waste streams are guided to different cells, among which the biocell is a landfill designed for biogas production. In this thesis, the dependence of biogas generation on waste composition was investigated. LÄS MER
7. Parasite on Crayfish : Characterisation of Their Pathogenesis, Host Interactions and Diversity
Sammanfattning : The crayfish plague refractory crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, which can harbour the fungal parasite within melanotic sheath, are found to constitutively express the gene encoding for prophenoloxidase (proPO) after mimicking parasite attack. In contrast, the susceptible crayfish, Astacus astacus, responds to the parasite by increased levels of proPO transcript, particularly in the semigranular haemocytes. LÄS MER
8. Participatory forest management for sustainable livelihoods in the Bale Mountains, Southern Ethiopia
Sammanfattning : Preventing environmental degradation and alleviating poverty are the twin challenges of sustainable development. Participatory forest management (PFM) takes the challenge of preventing the degradation of forest resources while sustaining forest-based benefits to people's livelihoods. LÄS MER
9. Lattice Boltzmann simulations of tracer diffusion in microswimmer suspensions
Sammanfattning : Suspensions of microswimmers are a class of systems inherently out of equilibrium, due to the mechanical work continuously performed by a large number of active agents. Biological examples are plentiful, as many aquatic microorganisms have the ability to propel themselves. LÄS MER
10. Catching the Bus in Old Age - Methodological Aspects of Accessibility Assessments in Public Transport
Sammanfattning : Engagement in daily activities is central for people’s health and well-being. Today, our activity arenas mostly cover great geographical areas, and to reach different activities we must travel. However, people with functional limitations are sometimes restricted in their travelling. LÄS MER
