1. Active Matter in a Critical State: From passive building blocks to active molecules, engines, and active droplets
Sammanfattning : The motion of microscopic objects is strongly affected by their surrounding environment. In quiescent liquids, motion is reduced to random fluctuations known as Brownian motion. Nevertheless, microorganisms have been able to develop mechanisms to generate active motion. LÄS MER
2. Compositional clues to sources and sinks of terrestrial organic matter transported to the Eurasian Arctic shelf
Sammanfattning : The amount of organic carbon (OC) present in Siberian Arctic permafrost soils is estimated at twice the amount of carbon currently in the atmosphere. The shelf seas of the Arctic Ocean receive large amounts of this terrestrial OC from Eurasian Arctic rivers and from coastal erosion. LÄS MER
3. Quantum dynamics of spin active and d-wave Josephson junctions
Sammanfattning : Conventional tunnel Josephson junctions form the basic building blocks of superconducting electronics. Their operation is based on comparatively simple dynamics where the superconducting phases across the junctions is the only dynamical degree of freedom. LÄS MER
4. Vortex-matter in Multi-component Superconductors
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is vortex-physics in multi component Ginzburg- Landau models. These models describe a newly discovered class of supercon- ductors with multiple superconducting gaps, and posses many properties that set them apart from single component models. LÄS MER
5. Cosmological Dark Matter and the Isotropic Gamma-Ray Background : Measurements and Upper Limits
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the isotropic diffuse gamma-ray background, as measured by the Fermi gamma ray space telescope, and its implications for indirect detection of dark matter. We describe the measurement of the isotropic background, including also an alternative analysis method besides the one published by the Fermi-LAT collaboration. LÄS MER
