21. Regulation of adenovirus alternative pre-mRNA splicing : Functional characterization of exonic and intronic splicing enhancer elements
Sammanfattning : Pre-mRNA splicing and alternative pre-mRNA splicing are key regulatory steps controlling geneexpression in higher eukaryotes. The work in this thesis was focused on a characterization of thesignificance of exonic and intronic splicing enhancer elements for pre-mRNA splicing. LÄS MER
22. Coagulant Protein from plant materials: Potential Water Treatment Agent
Sammanfattning : Access to fresh water is a human right, yet more than 780 million people, especially in rural areas, rely on unimproved sources and the need for finding ways of treating water is crucial. Although the use of natural coagulant protein in drinking water treatment has been discussed for a long time, the method is still not in practice, probably due to availability of material and limited knowledge. 23. Galanin in the pituitary and in human circulation : clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : The neuropeptide galanin has important roles in the central and peripheral nervous systems where it affects memory, seizure activity, appetite and pain transmission. Galanin is also present in the endocrine system and one of its most prominent effects is to stimulate the release of growth hormone (GH). LÄS MER
24. Genetic, morphological and chemical variation in the genus Harpagophytum
Sammanfattning : Harpagophytum procumbens is a valuable medicinal plant but mistakes with plant identification at harvesting, and wilful adulteration using the presumably less efficient H. zeyheri are suggested. A multidisciplinary study with plant material from Botswana was conducted. LÄS MER
25. Studies of leukotriene C4 synthase expression and regulation in chronic myeloid leukaemia
Sammanfattning : Leukotriene (LT) C4 is generated through conjugation of LTA4 with glutathione by the actions of leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S). This biologically potent mediator of asthma and inflammation has also been suggested to play a regulatory role in human myelopoiesis and is overproduced by blood and bone marrow cells from patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML).
