1. Black mustard and the butterfly effect : metabolomics of plant-insect interactions under multiple stress conditions
Sammanfattning : One main goal of ecological research is to understand nature´s complexity, in order to predict the potential impact of environmental perturbations. In this thesis, I investigate the ecological interactions between some of the most ancient organisms living on our planet: plants and insects. LÄS MER
2. Long-term impact of exposure to sulfur mustard on mental health, quality of life, and lung function
Sammanfattning : Sulfur mustard is a highly harmful blistering chemical warfare agent with an alkylation ability that can affect multiple organs (skin, eyes and lungs) in the short and long term. Sulfur mustard’s long-term biopsychosocial effects have not been sufficiently studied. LÄS MER
3. Effects of Selection and Demography on DNA Polymorphism in Black Mustard (Brassica nigra)
Sammanfattning : The evolution of three genes from the CONSTANS-LIKE gene family is studied in Brassica nigra. We use a combination of population genetic and phylogenetic techniques in order to assess the relative importance of selection and demography on the pattern of DNA variation. LÄS MER
4. Malignant glioma : experimental studies with an estrogen-linked cytostatic
Sammanfattning : Malignant gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors in adults. Patients with these highly malignant tumors have an extremely poor prognosis. The situation with a highly proliferative tumor in a non-proliferating tissue should favor cytostatic treatment but so far the role of conventional chemotherapy has been adjunctive. LÄS MER
5. From QTLs to Genes: Flowering Time Variation and CONSTANS-LIKE Genes in the Black Mustard (Brassica nigra)
Sammanfattning : The transition to flowering is a major developmental switch in angiosperms, the timing of which is expected to be important for fitness. In this thesis the focus has been on identification of genes affecting natural variation in flowering time in Brassica nigra. The background for this thesis is an earlier QTL-mapping study in B. nigra. LÄS MER
