    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Affinity; Aromatic amino acids; Binding; Biomembrane; Biotin; Chromatography; Cytochalasin B; Dihydrocytochalasin B; Dissociation constant; Drug absorption; Ethanol; Equilibrium; Glucose; GLUT1; Immobilization; Immobilized biomembrane affinity chromatography; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Interaction; Liposome; Membrane protein; Membrane vesicle; Partitioning; Phospholipid bilayer; Proteoliposome; Quantitative; Red blood cell; Specific; Streptavidin; Tyrosine; Tryptophan; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. Sammanfattning : Atoms, molecules and clusters all constitute building blocks of macroscopic matter. Therefore, understanding the electronic and geometrical properties of such systems is the key to understanding the properties of solid state objects. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Ultrafast Photo-induced Reaction Dynamics of Small Molecules

    Författare :Malin Kadi; Jan Davidsson; Eva Åkesson; Sören Keiding; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; pump-probe spectroscopy; reaction dynamics; photodissociation; aryl halides; spin-orbit coupling; ab initio calculations; molecular dynamics; vibrational wavepackets; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main focus of this thesis is the investigation of the dissociation dynamics of aryl halides using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. In the monohalogenated aryl halides, iodo-, bromo- and chlorobenzene, the rate of dissociation following excitation at 266 nm in the gas phase increased with increasing mass of the halogen atom. 4. 14. Mechanism and Regulation of Initiation of Protein Synthesis in Eubacteria

    Författare :Ayman Antoun; Måns Ehrenberg; John Hershey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Initiation; Protein Synthesis; Initiation Factors; Light Scattering; Ribosomes; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Initiation of protein synthesis in E.coli involves several steps, which lead to the formation of the first peptide bond. This process requires three initiation factors: IF1, IF2 and IF3. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Macrolide Antibiotics in Bacterial Protein Synthesis

    Författare :Martin Lovmar; Måns Ehrenberg; Tanel Tenson; Peter B. Moore; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; protein synthesis; macrolides; resistance; initiation of translation; non-competitive inhibitors; kinetics; translation accuracy; proof-reading; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Macrolides are a large group of clinically relevant antibiotics that inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the large ribosomal subunit in the peptide exit tunnel, close to the peptidyl transferase center (PTC). We have shown that the peptide length of the resulting peptidyl-tRNA drop-off products is proportional to the distance between the PTC and the respective macrolide in the tunnel. LÄS MER
