  1. 1. Infection induced chronic inflammation and it's association with prostate cancer initiation and progression

    Författare :Sabina Davidsson; Ove Andrén; Bo Söderquist; Jennifer Rider; Gisela Helenius; Jan-Erik Damber; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; chronic inflammation; CD4 helper T cells; CD8 cytotoxic T cells; regulatory T cells; Propionibacterium acnes; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : An association between cancer development and inflammation has long been suggested. Approximately 20% of all human cancers in adults are assumed to result from chronic inflammation. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if infection-induced chronic inflammation plays a role in prostate carcinogenesis. LÄS MER

    Författare :Simon Davidsson; Mikael Höök; Gert Jan Kramer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; low-carbon technology; renewable energy; energy transitions; critical materials; energy metals; material flows; net energy; EROI; life cycle assessment; LCA; growth curves; curve fitting; resource depletion; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Large-scale deployment of low-carbon energy technologies is important for counteracting anthropogenic climate change and achieving universal energy access. This thesis explores potential growth rates of technologies necessary to reach a more sustainable global energy system, the material and energy flows required to commission these technologies, and potential future availability of the required resources. 3. 3. Controlling Charge and Energy Transfer Processes in Artificial Photosynthesis : From Picosecond to Millisecond Dynamics

    Författare :Magnus Borgström; Leif Hammarström; Jan Davidsson; Sebastiano Campagna; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Artificial photosynthesis; Electron transfer; Energy transfer; Ruthenium; Manganese; Charge-separated state; Donor-acceptor; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes an interdisciplinary project, where the aim is to mimic the initial reactions in photosynthesis. In photosynthesis, the absorption of light is followed by the formation of charge-separated states. The energy stored in these charge-separated states is further used for the oxidation of water and reduction of carbon dioxide. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Shining Light on Molecules : Electron Transfer Processes in Model Systems for Solar Energy Conversion Investigated by Transient Absorption Spectroscopy

    Författare :Jens Föhlinger; Leif Hammarström; Davidsson Jan; Benjamin Dietzek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photophysics; photoinduced electron transfer; transient absorption spectroscopy; laser spectroscopy; solar energy conversion; p-type DSSCs; Charge separation; recombination; mesoporous NiO;

    Sammanfattning : In the recent years, solar energy conversion has attracted a huge research interest due to the potential application for limiting the greenhouse effect. In many solar cells and solar fuel cells, understanding of charge transfer (CT) and recombination is important for future improvement of the overall efficiency. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ultrafast Photo-induced Reaction Dynamics of Small Molecules

    Författare :Malin Kadi; Jan Davidsson; Eva Åkesson; Sören Keiding; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; pump-probe spectroscopy; reaction dynamics; photodissociation; aryl halides; spin-orbit coupling; ab initio calculations; molecular dynamics; vibrational wavepackets; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main focus of this thesis is the investigation of the dissociation dynamics of aryl halides using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. In the monohalogenated aryl halides, iodo-, bromo- and chlorobenzene, the rate of dissociation following excitation at 266 nm in the gas phase increased with increasing mass of the halogen atom.
