  1. 1. Studies of tamoxifen resistance in breast cancer

    Författare :Pia Palmebäck Wegman; Sten Wingren; Nils Wilking; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; tamoxifen; polymorphism; metabolic enzymes; oestrogen synthesis; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Oestrogen is one of the most important hormonal regulators and is known to play a key role in the development and growth of breast cancer. The majority of tumours have a hormone dependent growth, and this is indicated by the presence of oestrogen receptors (ERs). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Predictive markers for tamoxifen response in primary breast cancer

    Författare :Maria Stendahl; Malmö Patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; General pathology; Cytologi; onkologi; prognosis; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; predictive marker; p27; cyclin D1; tamoxifen; PR; breast cancer; ER; pathological anatomy; Patologi allmän ; patologisk anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : It is well-known that a majority of breast cancers are hormone-dependent, making endocrine therapy an important adjuvant treatment after surgery. Susceptibility to endocrine treatment is determined by the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in the tumors. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on cardiovascular disease and cancer

    Författare :Johan Rosell; John Carstensen; Olle Stål; Bo Nordenskjöld; Lars Holmberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adjuvant; adverse events; breast cancer; cerebrovascular disease; coronary heart disease; heart failure; lung cancer; second primary cancer; tamoxifen;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on breast cancer recurrence and mortality, cardiovascular disease, and the incidence of secondary cancer.Between 1982 and 1992, postmenopausal patients with early stage breast cancer were included in a randomized clinical study of 2 or 5 years of postoperative tamoxifen therapy. 4. 4. Cell cycle deregulation in breast cancer subgroups and effects on proliferation, migration and tamoxifen resistance

    Författare :Sophie Lehn; Malmö Molekylär patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; subgroups; proliferation; migration; stem cells; tamoxifen; estrogen receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is a heterogenous disease which can be divided in subgroups of distinct biology with disparate prognosis and response to treatment. The overall aim of this thesis was to delineate subgroup specific behaviour in breast cancer cells with focus on proliferation, migration and stem-like cell activity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Estrogen receptor alpha and beta in breast cancer - gene expression profiles and clinical implications

    Författare :Sofia Gruvberger; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk biologi; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Cytology; artificial neural networks; gene expression profiling; microarray; tamoxifen; adjuvant endocrine therapy; ER; estrogen receptor beta; Breast cancer; estrogen receptor alpha; Clinical biology;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women in the Western world with about 10% of women developing breast cancer during their lifetime, of which one third will eventually succumb to the metastatic form of the disease. Breast cancer arises from the epithelial cells of the breast mammary gland, but the mechanisms involved in tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis are still not fully understood. LÄS MER
