1. Long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on cardiovascular disease and cancer
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on breast cancer recurrence and mortality, cardiovascular disease, and the incidence of secondary cancer.Between 1982 and 1992, postmenopausal patients with early stage breast cancer were included in a randomized clinical study of 2 or 5 years of postoperative tamoxifen therapy. 2. CTA1-DD; A novel vaccine adjuvant system based on ADP-ribosyltransferase activity and B cell targeting
Sammanfattning : The ADP-ribosylating enterotoxins, cholera toxin (CT) and E. coli heat-labile toxin (LT) are among the most powerful immunogens and adjuvants yet described. An innate problem, though, is their strong toxic effects, largely due to their promiscuous binding to all nucleated cells via their B-subunits. LÄS MER
3. Pathogenetic studies of adjuvant-induced arthritis
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disabling chronic inflammatory disease, presumably autoimmune, that progressively destroys peripheral joints. The etiopathogenesis remains largely unknown, and an understanding of disease mechanisms and identification of genes is rendered difficult due to the multifactorial influence on RA. LÄS MER
4. Studies on the immuno-modulating properties of the cholera toxin A1-based fusion protein CTA1-DD
Sammanfattning : The present work was aimed at exploring the immuno-modulating properties of the novel cholera toxin (CT)-based vaccine adjuvant CTA1-DD, which combines the full enzymatic activity of the A1 subunit of CT with B cell targeting. We have studied the efficacy of the CTA1-DD adjuvant to enhance immune responses in mice after nasal administration. LÄS MER
5. Development of a New Oral Vaccine against Diphtheria and the Study of its Immunogenicity in Mouse and Man
Sammanfattning : Most pathogens enter the body via mucosal surfaces. In contrast to parenterally administered vaccination, mucosal vaccination has the advantage of eliciting both a systemic and a local mucosal immune response. An oral biodegradable adjuvant with these features would have great potential. LÄS MER
