  1. 6. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation

    Författare :Matteo Cameli; Michael Henein; Guy Lloyd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Advanced heart failure; heart transplantation; speckle tracking echocardiography; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; left ventricular fibrosis; left ventricular filling pressure; atrial strain; kariologi; Cariology;

    Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients. 2. 7. Material characterization of AA7075-T651 deformed at different temperatures and strain rates

    Författare :Biswajit Dalai; Lars-Erik Lindgren; Paul Åkerström; Marta-Lena Antti; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : In this licentiate thesis, the mechanical response and the microstructure evolution in aluminum alloy (AA) 7075 in its T651 heat treated state have been studied through mechanical tests at varied conditions of strain rate and temperature.First, compression tests were performed on AA7075-T651 samples at room temperature (RT), 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 °C (melting temperature of AA7075 is ~635 °C) with two comparatively low strain rates of 0. 3. 8. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone. Studies in genetically engineered mice

    Författare :Irene Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :acromegaly; autonomic nervous system; cardiovascular disease; cardiac function; vascular function; growth hormone; heart rate variability; hypertension; insulin-like growth factor-1; transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to enhance the understanding on the relationships between growth hormone (GH) and cardiovascular disease using genetically engineered mice. More specifically the effects of GH on blood pressure (BP), vascular and cardiac function, atherosclerosis and autonomic control of heart rate were studied. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Tuberculosis and HIV interaction in Ethiopian children : aspects on epidemiology, diagnosis and clinical management

    Författare :Ingela Berggren Palme; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Tuberculosis; HIV; Ethiopia; Child; Epidemiology; Risk factor; Mycobacterium tuberculosis; Drug resistance; Molecular epidemiology; BCG; Nutrition; Treatment; Cure rate;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the influence of HIV on childhood tuberculosis (TB) in a high TB and HIV endemic setting. It is based on four studies involving the same study population of 522 tuberculous children and their 25 3 non-tuberculous controls, consecutively enrolled as out- and inpatients at the major paediatric hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 5. 10. Influence of Self-trapping, Clamping and Confinement on Hydrogen Absorption

    Författare :Gunnar Karl Pálsson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Keith Ross; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrogen diffusion; thin films; superlattices; phase transitions; confinement; clamping; self-trapping; finite-size effect; Surfaces and interfaces; Ytor och mellanytor; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The dissociation of hydrogen molecules at surfaces is the first step in the absorption process. If the absorbing material is covered by an oxide, this layer will determine the effective uptake rate of an underlying absorbing material. LÄS MER
