  1. 1. Effect of valve replacement for aortic stenosis on ventricular function

    Författare :Ying Zhao; Michael Henein; Per Lindqvist; Eugenio Picano; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aortic stenosis; aortic valve replacement; echocardiography; speckle tracking; exercise echocardiography; ventricular function; septal radial motion; twist; displacement; strain; strain rate;

    Sammanfattning : Background:Aortic stenosis (AS) is the commonest valve disease in the West. Aortic valve replacement (AVR) remains the only available management for AS and results in improved symptoms and recovery of ventricular functions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. New insights in the assessment of right ventricular function : an echocardiographic study

    Författare :Avin Calcutteea; Michael Y Henein; Per Lindqvist; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; echocardiography; right ventricle; ischaemic heart disease; pulmonary hypertension; aortic stenosis; aortic valve replacement; three dimensional echocardiography; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background:  The right ventricle (RV) is multi-compartmental in orientation with a complex structural geometry. However, assessment of this part of the heart has remained an elusive clinical challenge. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Insights into the effect of myocardial revascularisation on electrical and mechanical cardiac function

    Författare :Ihab Ramzy Guirguis; Michael Y Henein; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial infarction; natriuretic peptides; echocardiography; ventricular function; atrial function; surgical revascularisation; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute coronary syndrome is known for its effect on cardiac function and can lead to impaired segmental and even global myocardial function. Evidence exists that myocardial revascularisation whether pharmacological, interventional or surgical results in improvement of systolic and diastolic left ventricular (LV) function, particularly that of the long axis which represents the sub-endocardial function, known as the most sensitive layer to ischaemia. 4. 4. Insight into Coro-Carotid atherosclerotic disease in patients with acute coronary syndrome

    Författare :Rafik B. Shenouda; Michael Y. Henein; Per Wester; Ana Djordjevic-Dikic; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute coronary syndrome; Agatston score; Atherosclerosis; Carotid calcifications; Carotid intima media thickness; Coronary calcifications; Echocardiography; Speckle tracking echocardiography; Strain; Strain rate; Tissue Doppler Imaging.; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: the arterial tree branches in different parts of human body are sharing the histological and physiological features. Atherosclerosis is a systemic arterial disease, hence is expected to affect to affect more than one arterial system with similar pathologic manifestations. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Echocardiographic assessment of ventricular size and function in heart transplant patients

    Författare :Annika Ingvarsson; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart Transplantation; Echocardiography; Speckle tracking; Left ventricular assist device;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractThe overall aims of this thesis were to use echocardiography to non-invasively, delineate early structural andfunctional changes following orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT), and to define reference values in the contextof gender and bridging with mechanical circulatory support.Several factors might affect myocardial function in OHT patients rendering the use of normal values fortransthoracic echocardiography derived from healthy subjects unsatisfactory.
