  1. 1. Stem cell function and organ development : analysis of Lhx2 function in hematopoietic stem cells and eye development

    Författare :Lina Dahl; Leif Carlsson; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lhx2; hematopoietic system; hematopoietic stem cell; progenitor; embryonic stem cell; embryoid body; eye development; forebrain; eye field transcription factor; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molecular medicine  genetics and pathology ;

    Sammanfattning : When a multicellular organism suffers damages to tissues/organs it heals itself by either substituting the lost cellular matrix by scar formation or by regenerating the lost tissue. Regeneration likely occurs by a recapitulation of the developmental process that formed the organ. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Allogeneic stem cell transplantation : patients’ and sibling donors’ perspectives

    Författare :Annika M Kisch; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :Allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation; Confidentiality; Information and care model; Quality of life; Perspectives; Sibling donor; Stem cell donation;

    Sammanfattning : Allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (hereafter HSCT) is an established treatment which offers a potential cure for a variety of diseases, mainly haematological malignancies. However, the treatment is also associated with significant risks of acute complications and late side effects, including mortality. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development of Gene Therapy for Hematopoietic Stem Cells using Lentiviral Vectors

    Författare :Niels-Bjarne Woods; Andreas Ooka; Stefan Karlsson; A Ooka; N B Woods; S Karlsson; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells are an ideal target for genetic manipulation for the purpose of curing hematological disorders as they have the ability to develop into all blood lineages and to self-renew. In this study we demonstrate that lentiviral vectors, based on HIV-1, can efficiently transfer genes into human hematopoietic progenitor and stem cells as assessed following stem cell transplantation in immune compromised mice. 4. 4. Human embryonic stem cells for bone engineering applications

    Författare :Giuseppe Maria de Peppo; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human skeleton; bone; bone defects; bone regeneration; regenerative medicine; tissue engineering; biomaterials; scaffold; biocoral; titanium; osseointegration bioreactor; human stem cells; embryonic stem cells; mesenchymal stem cells; embryonic-derived progenitors; osteogenic differentiation; mineralization; immune response; in vitro; in vivo;

    Sammanfattning : The human skeleton represents the supporting structure of the organism and accounts for about 20 percent of the total body mass. Despite its intrinsic capacity to regenerate and self-repair, this ability is limited and repair therapies are needed in a large number of clinical cases. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Stem cell based therapy of malignant brain tumors

    Författare :Daniel Bexell; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural stem cell; pericyte; mesenchymal stem cell; neuroblast; subventricular zone; cancer stem cell; rat; glioma; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant brain tumor is a highly invasive and vascularized cancer. Current forms of therapy are not curative and can, at best, prolong survival for patients with this disease. The mean survival is only around 15 months. LÄS MER
