1. Bone Healing after implantation of bone substitute materials. Experimental studies in estrogen deficiency
Sammanfattning : Bone formation and bone healing were studied in the mandible, tibia and skull bones in adult, healthy and estrogen deficient rabbits implanted with different bone substitutes. In the first study an evaluation of the differences in bone regeneration in and around solid (Alveograf *) and porous hydroxyapatite (Interpore 200*) was undertaken. Sammanfattning : Bone is a remarkable multifunctional tissue with the ability to regenerate and remodel without generating any scar tissue. However, bone loss due to injury or diseases can be a great challenge and affect the patient significantly. Autologous bone grafting is commonly used throughout the world. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : The human skeleton represents the supporting structure of the organism and accounts for about 20 percent of the total body mass. Despite its intrinsic capacity to regenerate and self-repair, this ability is limited and repair therapies are needed in a large number of clinical cases. LÄS MER
4. The Anabolic - Anti-catabolic Paradigm of Augmenting Skeletal Regeneration: A Bone Quality Perspective
Sammanfattning : Successful fracture repair is a complex series of coordinated processes leading to regeneration of new bone to bridge the fracture site, remodelling of the newly formed bone and restoration of skeletal function. Disruption of these processes occurs in approximately 10% of all fractures and leads to delayed or failed healing requiring surgical interventions, increased complication rates, prolonged rehabilitation and high morbidity. 5. Molecular and structural patterns of guided bone regeneration (GBR). Experimental studies on the role of GBR membrane and bone substitute materials
Sammanfattning : The mechanisms of guided bone regeneration (GBR) and bone healing with calcium phosphate (CaP) bone substitutes are not fully understood. The major aim of this thesis was to determine the relationship between the bone formation in bone defects and the cellular distribution and activities in association with CaP materials and/or with GBR membrane.
