1. Interpretation and Alignment of 2D Indoor Maps : Towards a Heterogeneous Map Representation
Sammanfattning : Mobile robots are increasingly being used in automation solutions with notable examples in service robots, such as home-care, and warehouses. Autonomy of mobile robots is particularly challenging, since their work space is not deterministic, known a priori, or fully predictable. LÄS MER
2. Fungal and bacterial contributions to decomposition in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems
Sammanfattning : Microbial decomposers process a great majority of net primary production in the biosphere and regulate carbon (C) and nutrient cycling. Microbial communities are extremely diverse and often disregarded from global C-cycling models, but one strategy to overcome this challenge is to focus on the major decomposer groups: fungi and bacteria. 3. Enhancement of Salient Image Regions for Visual Object Detection
Sammanfattning : Salient object/region detection aims at finding interesting regions in images and videos, since such regions contain important information and easily attract human attention. The detected regions can be further used for more complicated computer vision applications such as object detection and recognition, image compression, content-based image editing, and image retrieval. 4. Modelling phase separation in Fe-Cr alloys : A continuum approach
Sammanfattning : The formation of Cr-rich and Fe-rich domains upon ageing of an initially homogeneous Fe-Cr alloy at elevated temperatures (300-600 ºC) is commonly referred to as phase separation. The behaviour originates from a miscibility gap in the Fe-Cr phase diagram. LÄS MER
5. Impacts and drivers of insect herbivory on element cycling in forests globally
Sammanfattning : The effects of insect herbivores on forest functioning are not well understood even though they can have important impacts on ecosystem processes by intercepting foliage before resorption and depositing nutrient-rich materials to the soil. In this thesis, I investigated the impact and drivers of insect folivores on carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and silica (Si) cycling in broadleaf forests, and how this varies with major climate variables.
