11. Expression of TGF- isoforms, their receptors and related SMAD proteins in brain pathology : Immunohistochemical studies focusing on infarcts, abscesses and malignant gliomas
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the immunohistochemical expression of transforming growth factor beta(TGFβ) isoforms, their receptors and TGF-β-related SMAD proteins in brain pathology, chiefly in-farcts. One key question was whether the expressions of these compounds are altered within glial cells, endothelial cells of microvessels and other cell types in the vicinity of infarcts. LÄS MER
12. The cerebral circulation in preeclampsia : abnormalities in autoregulation and perfusion
Sammanfattning : Background: Eclampsia continues to be a major cause of maternal death. Abnormal cerebral blood flow and autoregulation may play an important role in the causation. Doppler ultrasound now allows assessment of the pathophysiology of preeclampsia, and the mechanisms of action of drugs used to treat it. LÄS MER
13. Vascular receptor changes in ischemic stroke
Sammanfattning : The present thesis aimed to examine how ischemic stroke affects the vascular endothelin and angiotensin systems in cerebral arteries. To study vascular receptor changes in ischemic stroke transient focal ischemia was induced in rats. LÄS MER
14. Importance of MAPK and PKC in cerebrovascular endothelin receptor changes
Sammanfattning : Endothelin is a vasoactive peptide that exerts its effect through two receptors; the endothelin type A (ETA) and type B (ETB) receptor. The contractile ETA receptor is localized on smooth muscle cells in the vascular wall, while the ETB receptors are mainly situated on endothelial cells, mediating vasodilatation. LÄS MER
15. Summer Climate Variability during the Past 1200 Years in Central Scandinavia – A Tree-Ring Perspective
Sammanfattning : To set the current 20th century warming in a long-term context, significant efforts have been made to reconstruct hemispheric-to-global temperatures beyond the instrumental period. Tree-rings, which have annual resolution and can be precisely dated, have been widely used to infer past climate variability. LÄS MER
