  1. 1. Cerebral ischemia studied with positron emission tomography and microdialysis

    Författare :Peter Frykholm; Peter Kirkpatrick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Cerebral ischemia; penumbra; positron emission tomography; microdialysis; middle cerebral artery occlusion; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurosurgery; neurokirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the industrialized world. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), the least common form of stroke, is one of the most demanding diseases treated in neurointensive care units. Cerebral ischemia may develop rapidly, and has a major influence on outcome. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Stroke, Sex and Vascular Receptor Changes in the Brain

    Författare :Hilda Ahnstedt; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endothelin receptors; Cerebral ischemia; sex; estrogen; progesterone; sex differences; human cerebral arteries; endothelin-1; angiotensin II; middle cerebral artery occlusion; extra-cellular signal regulated kinase 1 and 2;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a severe cerebrovascular disease in which the neuronal tissue and vasculature of the brain undergo ischemia-evoked alterations. We have demonstrated an increased expression of cerebrovascular contractile receptors in the brain. This is hypothesized to mitigate cerebral blood flow and exacerbate tissue damage after stroke. 3. 3. Cerebral blood flow distribution, collateral function and pulsatility in healthy and in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis  : a magnetic resonance imaging approach

    Författare :Laleh Zarrinkoob; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Khalid Ambarki; Sepideh Amin-Hanjani; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aging; Arterial pulsatility; Carotid stenosis; Cerebral arteries; Cerebral blood flow; Cerebral collateral blood flow; Circle of Willis; Phase contrast magnetic resonance imaging;

    Sammanfattning : Background: For the detection and treatment of early cerebral vascular disease it is of paramount importance to first understand the normal physiology of the cerebral vasculature, and subsequently, to understand how and when pathology can develop from that. This is especially important as the population above 65 years of age is increasing and aging itself is an established risk factor for the development of cerebral vascular disease. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Estrogen-inducible neuropeptides in the rat brain: role in focal ischemic lesions

    Författare :Annette Theodorsson; Elvar Theodorsson; A: Langmoen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Estrogen; neuropeptides; galanin; cerebral ischemia; middle cerebral artery occlusion; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Sex steroids in general and estrogens in particular – in addition to their effects on the reproductive organs – affect a large number of crucial bodily functions, including “higher” brain functions.Neuropeptides constitute the phylogenetically oldest neurotransmitter system and are currently thought to act mainly during stress, disease or injury. 5. 5. Astrocyte metabolism following focal cerebral ischemia

    Författare :Anna E Thoren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Astrocyte; metabolism; focal cerebral ischemia; reperfusion; infarct; [1-14C]acetate; [U-14C]glucose; glutamine; glutamate; ATP; ADP; lactate; MCT4; immunogold cytochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and death. Most often, stroke results from blockage of an artery in the brain leading to tissue infarction within the perfusion territory of the affected vessel. LÄS MER
