1. Hemorphins and endomorphins
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, two newly discovered endogenous opioid peptide families, the hemorphins and endomorphins, are investigated with emphasis on modulation of pain and inflammation. In addition, the presence of hemorphins in human biological fluids as well as the in vitro and in vivo processing ofLVV-hemorphin-7 in blood and brain is investigated. LÄS MER
2. Activation mechanisms of Class F receptors
Sammanfattning : Our genetic makeup is composed of thousands of genes that code for the proteins involved in all aspects of cellular function. Proteins are molecular machines that dynamically and structurally respond to stimuli. LÄS MER
3. The Role of Membrane Trafficking in G Protein-Coupled Receptor Regulation
Sammanfattning : Movements of a receptor in the plasma membrane and within the cell influence receptor function and physiology. I have investigated the role of such movements, generally known as membrane trafficking, in G protein-coupled receptor regulation. LÄS MER
4. The analgesic mechanisms of buprenorphine
Sammanfattning : Buprenorphine, a derivative of thebaine, is a semi-synthetic opiate and a partial p-opioid receptor agonist. Buprenorphine is also a weak kappa-opioid receptor antagonist. Buprenorphine is used clinically as an analgesic and for maintenance therapy of opiate-dependent subjects because it produces limited withdrawal symptoms. LÄS MER
5. DARPP-32 in the striatum : multiple regulation and physiological role
Sammanfattning : Protein phosphorylation is an important mechanism involved in intracellular signal transduction. The activity of many proteins is affected by their state of phosphorylation, which in turn is determined by the combined activities of protein kinases and protein phosphatases. LÄS MER
