  1. 26. On Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, bacterial translocation and intestinal permeability

    Författare :Peter Mangell; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacterial translocation; permeability; intestinal microflora; Kirurgi; orthopaedics; P-selectin; ortopedi; traumatologi; leukocyte recruitment; Lactobacillus plantarum 299v; traumatology; Surgery; colon resection;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract harbours a huge load of bacteria which exerts important biological functions to maintain health. In certain conditions the relation between commensal bacteria and pathogens may be set off balance, with an increase in number of pathogens and risk of bacterial translocation (BT). LÄS MER

  2. 27. Acute pancreatitis - Cellular response and dynamic inflammatory changes

    Författare :Marwan Dib; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Veterinary medicine:surgery; inflammatory mediators.; adhesion molecules; endothelial barrier dysfunction; inflammatory response; mast cell; abdominal sepsis; Acute pancreatitis; physiology; pathology; clinical studies; Veterinärmedicin:kirurgi; fysiologi; patologi; kliniska studier;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disorder where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and the remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The aim of the present study was to further characterize the dynamics and sequence of the immune response in AP, and to determine the cellular origin of the initiating events. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion. Proinflammatory response and organ dysfunction

    Författare :Knut Olanders; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; Surgery; inflammation; cytokine; leukocyte; reperfusion; ischemia; permeability; Intestine; endothelium;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal I/R is considered to be an important initiating event in several pathophysiological conditions such as trauma, bleeding, sepsis and pancreatitis, frequently leading to concomitant both single and potentially multiple organ dysfunction. The purpose of this thesis was to study mechanims underlying the development of multiple organ dysfunction, with special focus on intercellular proinflammatory regulation in the concurrent development of tissue injury. 4. 29. Laparoscopic or Open Antireflux Surgery - A Comparative Study with Special Reference to the Patient´s Perspective

    Författare :Gunilla Nilsson; Folke Johnsson; Bengt Hallerbäck; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antireflux surgery; fundoplication; RCT; laparoscopy versus open surgery; subjective outcomes; objective outcomes; narratives; short-term follow-up; long-term follow-up; Surgery; Kirurgi; Health Informatics; Hälsoinformatik; Omvårdnad; Nursing; Gastro-enterology; Gastroenterologi; traumatology; orthopaedics; Surgery; long-term follow-up; short-term follow-up; narratives; objective outcomes; subjective outcomes; laparoscopy versus open surgery; RCT; Antireflux surgery; fundoplication; Kirurgi; traumatologi; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to compare the effects of laparoscopic versus open antireflux surgery in a randomized clinical trial focusing the patients' subjective and objective outcome postoperatively, from a short-term and a long-term perspective. A further aim was to describe GORD patients' experiences of illness and surgical treatment and if possible to find striking characteristics relating to laparoscopic or open surgery. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Brain plasticity and hand function

    Författare :Anders Björkman; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatology; Surgery; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; hand function; nerve injury; brain plasticity; orthopaedics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of cortical reorganisational changes following experimental deafferentation and peripheral nerve injury and apply the concept of brain plasticity to enhance sensory re-education following peripheral nerve injury and repair in the hand. In the first two papers the effects on hand function of contralateral deafferentation was investigated. LÄS MER
