  1. 1. Metastatic spinal cord compression in prostate cancer : clinical and morphological studies

    Författare :Sead Crnalic; Richard Löfvenberg; Anders Widmark; Anders Bergh; Sten Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prostate cancer; bone metastasis; spinal cord compression; surgical treatment; survival prognosis; early diagnosis; androgen receptor; Orthopaedics; ortopedi; Pathology; patologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Bone metastases occur in most patients with advanced hormone-refractory prostate cancer causing pain, pathologic fractures, and spinal cord compression. Few studies specifically address surgical treatment of metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) in prostate cancer. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ultrasound measurements of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis : methodological and clinical studies

    Författare :Emma Nyman; Christer Grönlund; Ulf Näslund; Isabel Gonçalves; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; ultrasound; carotid artery; carotid intima media thickness; carotid plaque; reproducibility; intervention; echogenicity; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Ultrasound measurements of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis have been evaluated as an additional parameter in risk evaluation of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge regarding ultrasound measurements of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Författare :Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 4. 4. Hand grip strength and postural control among individuals with and without Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease : Epidemiological and motion laboratory studies

    Författare :Viktor Strandkvist; Ulrik Röijezon; Anne Lindberg; Caroline Stridsman; Agneta Larsson; André Nyberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysioterapi; Physiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is estimated to affect approximately 8%–10% of all adults. The disease is considered to be a heterogenic syndrome with systemic effects, in which comorbidities including cardiovascular diseases, muscle dysfunction and fatigue are common. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Bridging the gap between clinical trials and clinical practice : sacubitril-valsartan in heart failure as a model

    Författare :Helena Norberg; Krister Lindmark; Ellinor Bergdahl; Eva-Lotta Glader; Björn Wettermark; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systematic implementation; healthcare quality improvement; chronic disease management; heart failure; sacubitril-valsartan; real-world population; sex differences; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : When novel treatments prove more effective than standard therapies, a swift and effective implementation is needed to reach cost-effectiveness and to benefit eligible patients. Meanwhile, women and elderly are often under-represented in clinical trials, which creates a knowledge gap on how to optimize treatment in clinical practice. LÄS MER
