  1. 21. Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury - Pathophysiology as basis for novel treatment

    Författare :Zhengwu Sun; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; organ dysfunction; epithelium; endothelium; adhesion molecules; cytokines; protease inhibitor; Intestine; barrier; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is not infrequent in the clinical situation and the intestinal barrier plays an important role in gut barrier function, preventing not at least septic complications and potentially the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Mechanisms of intestinal I/R induced gut epithelial and endothelial barrier dysfunction and remote organ dysfunction, as well as potential preventive and therapeutic modes of management were evaluated in the rat. 2. 22. Abdominal adhesions - clinical impact and experimental prevention

    Författare :Bobby Tingstedt; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; anastomotic healing; adhesion prevention; polypeptides; long term follow-up; cost; non-specific abdominal pain; abdominal adhesions; small bowel obstruction; ortopedi; traumatologi; Kirurgi; traumatology; burst pressure;

    Sammanfattning : Intraabdominal adhesions are formed after most operations and a limited number of studies have to examine the long-term spectrum of adhesion-related disorders and the cost associated with this. Only a few numbers of antiadhesive agents are available which, however, do not decrease the actual morbidity that follows intraabdominal adhesions, such as small bowel obstruction, infertility and pain. 3. 23. Wireless esophageal PH monitoring. Clinical evaluation of a new technique

    Författare :Jörgen Wenner; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; thresholds; specificity; sensitivity; diagnostic accuracy; adverse symptoms; wireless; pH monitoring; gastroesophageal reflux disease; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Esophageal pH monitoring is important in the clinical management of patients with symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and in research aiming to clarify the mechanisms involved in the development of GERD complications. Catheter-based techniques for pH recording are uncomfortable, not well tolerated by all patients and cannot reliably measure acid exposure in the most distal esophagus the region most prone to reflux-induced complications. 4. 24. Pancreatitis-Associated Pulmonary Injury

    Författare :Xia Zhao; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; inflammatory mediators; protein kinase C; leukocytes; acute lung injury; abdominal sepsis; acute pancreatitis; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : In acute pancreatitis (AP), lung injury is an early occuring and important part of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The mechanisms underlying the development of lung injury though still largely remains unclear. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The Columnar Lined Esophagus. Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects

    Författare :Stefan Öberg; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intestinal metaplasia; Barrett s esophagus; Esophageal columnar metaplasia; Metaplasia; Pathophysiology; Gastroesophageal reflux disease; Esophagus; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : There is a persisting controversy concerning the definition, etiology and pathogenesis of Barrett's esophagus. The dramatic and parallel increase in the incidence of esophageal and junctional adenocarcinoma over the past decades justifies an evaluation of the pathophysiology of premalignant metaplastic changes of the esophagus and the gastroesophageal junction.
