  1. 11. Calcium Homeostasis After Thyroid Surgery

    Författare :Pia Lindblom; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PTH-peripheral effects; hPTH- 1-34 infusion; EDTA infusion; Set-point; Vitamin D3; PTH; Calcium; Thyroid surgery; Postoperative hypocalcemia; Bone density.; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Reduced thyroid hormones;

    Sammanfattning : Calcium homeostasis after thyroid surgery was studied during the immediate postoperative period and after one year. One day after hemithyroidectomy ionised calcium decreased whereas basal PTH did not change. EDTA stimulated maximal and total PTH secretion and set-point decreased on postoperative day 1 and normalised on day 7. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Colorectal Liver Metastases. Aspects on Diagnosis and Surgical Treatment

    Författare :Björn O B Ohlsson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carcinoembryonic antigen; fine-needle aspiration cytology; intraoperative ultrasonography; computed tomography; dearterialization; liver resection; Colorectal cancer; liver metastases; follow-up; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Liver is the most common site of dissemination in colorectal cancer, and untreated liver metastases are associated with a poor prognosis. The main reason for trying to detect liver metastases early is that liver resection offers a chance for cure in selected patients. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Pulmonary Injury Following Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

    Författare :Anna Börjesson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reperfusion injury; intestinal ischemia; pulmonary injury; endothelium; cytokines; alveolar fluid clearance; leukocytes; orthopaedics; Surgery; traumatology; ortopedi; Kirurgi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is a potentially life-threatening condition, sometimes leading to a systemic inflammatory response and the potential development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The overall aim of the thesis was to study the effects of intestinal I/R on pulmonary function with special emphasis on removal of excess alveolar fluid, pulmonary endothelial barrier permeability, leukocyte accumulation and function, and possible therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of pulmonary injury following intestinal I/R. 4. 14. Endothelial Barrier Dysfunction in Multiple Organ Injury. An Experimental Study in Rats

    Författare :Xiaoming Deng; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; Endothelial barrier permeability; Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome; Zymosan; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is still the leading cause of mortality in the surgical intensive care unit. The effect on among others endothelial barrier permeability, reticuloendothelial function, organ function and protease-antiprotease activities was studied following a variety of challenges, especially over-activation of macrophages induced by intraperitoneal administration of zymosan. 5. 15. Intestinal Bypass and Total Parenteral Nutrition: Changes in Gut Function and Morphology

    Författare :Mikael Ekelund; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; Surgery; Gastroenterologi; Gastro-enterology; Fysiologi; Physiology; total parenteral nutrition; supersensitivity; plasticity; intestinal bypass; interstitial cells of Cajal; goblet cells; eosinophils; adaptation; enteric nervous system;

    Sammanfattning : Abolition of enteral nutrition is sometimes required in severe illness. The primary aim of the present work has been to elucidate possible changes in intestinal morphology and motor function in absence of enteral nutrition. Total absence of enteral nutrition in an isolated intestinal segment was created by bypassing the distal ileum in a rat model. LÄS MER
