1. Liver regeneration : With reference to malnutrition and growth factors
Sammanfattning : The liver has a unique capacity to regenerate after damage, irrespective of cause. The regulatory mechanisms of this regeneration are not fully known. Liver regeneration· is associated with rapid growth and thereby increased demands for energy and synthesis of new compounds. LÄS MER
2. Ultrasound based shear wave elastography of the liver : a non-invasive method for evaluation of liver disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Detecting liver disease at an early stage is important, given that early intervention decreases the risk of developing cirrhosis and subsequently hepatocellular cancer (HCC). The non-invasive ultrasound-based shear wave elastography (SWE) has been used clinically for a decade to assess liver stiffness. LÄS MER
3. Colorectal Liver Metastases : Onco-surgical Strategies & Prognostic Factors
Sammanfattning : The management of patients with colorectal cancer with liver metastases has improved over the past decades. There have been significant developments in terms of surgery, local therapies, anesthesia and oncological treatment. Nevertheless, there is no consensus on what constitutes optimal treatment strategy. LÄS MER
4. Quantitative Evaluation of Contrast Agent Dynamics in Liver MRI
Sammanfattning : The studies presented here evaluate the biliary, parenchymal and vascular enhancement effects of two T1-shortening liver-specific contrast agents, Gd-BOPTA and Gd-EOB-DTPA, in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of healthy subjects and of patients.Ten healthy volunteers were examined with both contrast agents in a 1. 5. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain.
