7. Starch stabilized Pickering emulsions : Colloidal starch particles and their effects on emulsion properties
Sammanfattning : Particles can be used to stabilize multi-phase systems known as Pickering emulsions. The aim of this thesis was to investigate how starch particles affect emulsion properties. Starch granules were used individually as well as in binary mixtures. LÄS MER
8. Transport and release of insulin granules during biphasic insulin secretion
Sammanfattning : Glucose-evoked insulin secretion exhibits two phases: The first phase represents exocytosis of insulin granules situated at the plasma membrane, whereas the second phase reflects insulin release from granules continuously recruited to the plasma membrane. This thesis investigates different aspects of phasic insulin secretion, with the specific aims to elucidate the possible contribution of insulin granule transport, as well as to study the influence of the nucleotides cAMP and NADPH to this process. 9. Starch Pickering Emulsions : Process and Encapsulation Stability
Sammanfattning : The emulsion stabilization functionality of surfactants and biopolymers can be replaced by solid particles adsorbed at the interface, where they create a category of emulsions known as Pickering emulsions. Recently, health and environmental concerns have led to new market demand for natural, biodegradable and renewable sources of ingredients. LÄS MER
10. Bactericidal/Permeability-Increasing Protein (BPI) and Proteinase 3: Studies at the Transcriptional Level
Sammanfattning : In myelopoiesis, neutrophils and monocytes/macrophages are formed from a common myeloid precursor cell in the bone marow. During maturation of neutrophils, cytoplasmic granules are formed in the cells and the content of these granules is critical for the function of neutrophils in the first line of defense against invading microorganisms.
