  1. 16. Enzymes involved in heparan sulfate chain elongation : Function of a novel family of tumor suppressors?

    Författare :Thomas Lind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; heparan sulfate; biosynthesis; glycosyltransferase; EXT1; EXT2; UDP-glucosedehydrogenase; KfiC; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a glycosaminoglycan associated with many physiological functions such as regulation of growth factor action and cell adhesion. The HS polysaccharide is synthesized by alternating addition of D-glucuronic acid (GlcA) and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (GlcNAc) units from the corresponding UDP-sugar precursors. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Molecular Genetic Studies of the Blood Group ABO Locus in Man

    Författare :Martin L Olsson; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chi sequence; recombination; population studies; blood group serology; erythrocyte; blood transfusion; sequencing; DNA; PCR; genomic; Blood group ABO; allele; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The ABO blood group system is undoubtedly the most important genetic and phenotypic marker in clinical transfusion medicine. The A and B determinants are immunodominant, terminally located carbohydrate residues of glycoconjugates on erythrocytes and other cell surfaces. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Intracellular vesicles induced by monotopic membrane protein in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Hanna M. Eriksson; Åke Wieslander; Meta Kuehn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane protein; intracellular vesicles; Escherichia coli; glycosyltransferase; overexpression; optimization; detergent; screening; lipid composition; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The monotopic membrane protein alMGS, a glycosyltransferase catalyzing glucolipid synthesis in Acholeplasma laidlawii, was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. Optimization of basic growth parameters was performed, and a novel method for detergent and buffer screening using a small size-exclusion chromatography was developed. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Understanding and manipulating primary cell walls in plant cell suspension cultures

    Författare :Felicia Leijon; Vincent Bulone; Katja Salomon Johansen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Callose synthase; carbohydrate-binding module; cell wall engineering; cellulose microfibril; cellulose nanocrystal; glycosyltransferase; mass spectrometry; plasmodesmata; Populus; primary cell wall; radiometric assay; spectrophotometric assay; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The cell wall is required for many aspects of plant function and development. It is also an accessible and renewable resource utilized both in unrefined forms and as raw material for further development. Increased knowledge regarding cell wall structure and components will contribute to better utilization of plants and the resources they provide. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Molecular genetics of human carbohydrate defined blood groups. Studies of the ABO and P blood group systems

    Författare :Rudi Steffensen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ABO blood group system; P blood group system; carbohydrate antigen; DNA; sequencing; populations studies; expression studies;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to explore the molecular genetics of the carbohydrate defined blood group ABO and P systems.The blood group ABO system is the clinically most significant system in transfusion medicine. Using modern molecular biology, a number of the ABO alleles have been characterized. LÄS MER
