1. Biochemical studies of carbohydrate blood group antigens - Carbohydrate phenotype in relation to cellular glycosyltranferases
Sammanfattning : The possibility to alter the cell surface carbohydrate expression by insertion or deletion of glycosyltransferase genes is a powerful technique to study the biological function of selected carbohydrate antigens. However, shifting the equilibrium between competing glycosyltransferases might lead to unexpected phenotypic effects, such as accumulation of other carbohydrate antigens and exposure of antigen structures that normally are cryptic or present in minute amounts on the cell surface. 2. Development of Flourescence-based Immunosensors for Continous Carbohydrate Monotoring : Applications for Maltose and Glucose
Sammanfattning : Weak affinity interaction of monoclonal antibodies and carbohydrate antigens can be detected and quantified by alterations in the antibodies' intrinsic tryptophan fluorescence. These weak/transient binding events have been monitored by total internal reflection fluorescence (TlRF) by facilitating the change in intrinsic tryptophan fluorescence. LÄS MER
3. Elucidating Genetic and Biochemical Aspects of the P1 and Sda Carbohydrate Histo-Blood Group Antigens
Sammanfattning : Human histo-blood groups are inherited polymorphic variants that occur in the molecular structures on the humanred blood cell (RBC) surface. Introducing foreign RBCs into a recipient lacking an antigen may activate the humoraldefence leading to a hemolytic transfusion reaction. LÄS MER
4. Molecular genetics of human carbohydrate defined blood groups. Studies of the ABO and P blood group systems
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to explore the molecular genetics of the carbohydrate defined blood group ABO and P systems. The blood group ABO system is the clinically most significant system in transfusion medicine. Using modern molecular biology, a number of the ABO alleles have been characterized. LÄS MER
5. Studies of Carbohydrate-Binding Proteins from Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : Knowledge about the carbohydrate binding specificity of pathogens can give an increased understanding of their virulence strategies, and is also of importance for the development of anti-adhesive therapies and vaccines. Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is a well-known causative agent of diarrheal disease. LÄS MER
